COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Nice IPA. Pours amber with a nice off-white head. Aroma is of intense hops and grapfruit. Obviously, the taste is very hoppy, grapefruity with citrus, pine and good malt backing. Mouthfeel is very full, thick, round with a nice bitter aftertaste. Nice lacing on the glass. Highly recommended. Reminds me a little of Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA.

Great session IPA, but a bit one dimensional. This is a very crisp, clean IPA and I will drink it again. Beautiful, crystal clear amber color, slightly to the yellow end. Great head and lacing, and a very clear hop flavor and aroma. I just wish the hops lingered longer and a little harder on the tongue. Taste is almost all in the back of the mouth, none up front which leads me to my thinking of it as one dimensional. Very nice IPA overall though.

Awesome, hoppy aroma. Cedar and lemongrass overtones. Beautiful light-trapping honey amber. Flavor is textbook A+ IPA. Not too bitter or dry, just perfect, I think. Great bitey finish and enjoyable aftertaste. Drink this!

Nice light amber pour with a lasting disappating white head. The body is a little light on the malt to balance the extremely hoppy overtones. The hops give the beer a grapefruit/citrus taste. Dry and bitter finish.

This beer was my first encounter with Avery, and to be honest I bought it for the great label. It has since become one of my mainstay IPA’s due to its well balanced dance with the hops and malt.

Nicely done. This IPA is very grassy, which is one of my favorite flavors in IPAs. I should get a keg of this one as it is sometimes available.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2006 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head leaving terrific lacing. Excellent nose, heavy on the grapefruit and citrus. Flavor is of grapefruit with pine, even a touch of peach. Perhaps a bit thin; not overwhelmingly bitter. Very drinkable. Slightly better than its rating would indicate.

A great IPA. Very pale golden color, with creamy white head. Heavy lacing. Piney and citrusy hop aromas dominate. Flavor follows aroma with the hop bitterness dominating. Definitely off-balance in terms of malts and hops...but for those of us who enjoy truly hoppy west coast IPA’s, this is a good beer.
