COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

(02.11.06) 12 oz brown bottle purchased from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. Clear light orange hued ale having an average-sized white head with good lacing. Good carbonation. Hop/sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and pronounced citrusy (grapefruit) hop flavor. Finishes dry with light hop bitterness fade. Well-balanced with edge toward hoppiness. A very tasty IPA.

Pours an amber color with a small head. Has that nice citrus and pine smell that you look for in an IPA. Starts with a hint of sweet malt, but the hops definitely rule this one and overtake the sweetness at the end. This is a very good IPA. I’ll come back to this one.

Bottled. Like diving into a pine forest. Dry, crispy, immensly refreshing!

Nice cloudy orange color with a light head and average lacing. Aroma of pine, floral and hops but is a bit weak compared to some of the finer IPAs. Taste is so smooth and pure but again weak in hops and citrus flavor compared to some of my favorites. Finish is crisp and dry. Solid beer.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2009 Pours hazy copper with a decent white head. Aroma of citrus. Taste is very hoppy with some malt base and light spice. Pine and citrus hops present here. Finish is not too bitter; very mild for an IPA. Overall, a middle of the pack IPA. **** Fresh dry-hopped cask at Trappeze. Probably the best IPA or pale ale cask I’ve ever had. Really big fruit notes in the aroma and flavor. Really nice. I’ll average the 4.4 I’d give the cask with my bottle rating.

12oz. bottle - pours with a nice and foamy white head on top of a pale, clear yellow/gold body. Aroma is very hoppy, primarily with grapefruit and other citric notes. Flavour makes this a very well balanced but hop forward, offering no surprises from what is found in the aroma but does everything very well. Why should I be surprised anyway, when the beer is this solid all the way through. Finish is perfectly bitter to remain sessionable and thirst quenching, and the earthier hop notes come forward. Hugely drinkable. Great.

A murky golden color in the glass. This leaves plenty of lacing on the side of the glass. Smell is bittering hops. Taste is absolutely wonderful! Wonderful bitter hop taste. Plenty of juicy hop flavor and bitterness to balance it out. This is a very well done IPA. Among the best. Crisp and refreshing, definitely won’t be the last that I have.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2007 100th?! Very fragrant floral hoppy aroma, nice. Average amber color. Flavor, very hoppy/piney with a nice medium/heavy body. Will be buying this again, must have for hop heads!!
