COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Avery IPA is a cloudy golden ale with a soft, dense, bubbly offwhite head that has excellent retention and lacing. It has a green, hoppy aroma with notes of pine needles, pine resin and oranges. It has a slick medium body with a clean, silky finish. It’s nice and bitter with a hint of sweetness. There’s lots of pine and a hint of orange and grapefruit. It has a long, bitter, resiny aftertaste. It’s a very solid Western IPA.

Pours golden with a medium white head. Aroma is very floral, but not overwhelming. Tastes very balanced, hoppy but with enough malt backbone to make it a very smooth IPA. Very easy to drink and a great session beer. A solid beer from Avery.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2010 Bottle. Clear gold with a huge, over-carbonated head that lasts with good foamy lace. Aroma is grapefruit and pine-grassy hops. Flavor is good balance of sweet malt and citrus hops; gets increasingly hoppier and ends with a nutty-cocoa and resin-crisp aftertaste. Smooth, dryish and easy, with surprisingly little tingle for all the hops and carbonation. Nice, widely available AIPA.

I was at Specs and decided to try it without knowing anything about this beer. When I got home and tried the first one I was floored. Strong hoppy aroma, nice foamy head. The first drink was fresh and piney with hints of grapefruit. Finishes nice and malty. I had been drinking Dogfish Head 60 IPA lately and this is probably equal or better. Great beer.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a medium fluffy head. Had a wheat grass aroma and some citrus. The taste was a good balance with the sweet flavor and the bitter finish. a very good IPA

Having heard nothing about this beer prior to purchasing it, I was pleasantly surprised. It pours a deep gold with a large, dense, pillowy, off-white head that takes it’s sweet time in diminishing. The aroma is citrus, pine and flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with a bitter finish that wicks all moisture from the tongue. The flavor is sweet caramel malts up front with a strong floral, pine and citrus hop backing. This is a tasty IPA with a nice lingering finish.

Not the Maharaja, but a very nice hoppy beer. Good smells and a nice end. I could try and get sick of IPAs and this wouldn’t do it. A good beer to watch Monday Night Football with.
