COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

ours a very clear bright golden color, with a thick fluffy white head that fades slowly to a solid cap. The lacing is very sticky, and nearly covers the entire inside of my glass. Smell; pine resin and citric hops are the main players in the aroma, but there’s also an underlying sweetness, as well as a bit of floral/herbal aroma. Taste; it’s almost harshly bitter on the first couple of sips, but once you get passed that it becomes very nice. The flora/herbal hops are more pronounced in the flavor than they were in the aroma, and almost give this a bit of a spiciness. The pine and citrus are also present, along with a mild caramel sweetness in the background. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a mild carbonation, and the drinkability is just great. My glass is almost empty, and I feel like I just barely started drinking it. I’m glad I can now get this in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Crystal clear amber, large white lasting head. Hop aromas take charge quickly,. Medium mouthfeel with an initial caramel malt flavor that is quickly subdued by the pine and spice hop flavors. But, the malt base conitnues into the finish, balanced by hop bitterness that lingers. Up there with the good ones.

On tap a the Dog and Pony in Renton. Crisp clear grapefruit and pine in a well-rounded and tasty IPA. I need to re-rate this beer when it’s not competing with IIPAs in the same session.

12oz Bottle: An orange pour topped by a creamy off white head. Has lots of clarity and leaves a consistent lacing. Appetizing aroma of perfumy hops, lots of pine & orange rind citrus, twiggy, and musty notes. Very bitter hoppy notes in the flavor. It initially has some citrus notes of bitter orange-rind, spicy/herbal honey, hints of vanilla sweetness are evident from the malt middle. The finish leans more toward a spicy hoppyness which is slightly minty. Has a bit of a musty basement character, however it’s subtle and doesn’t detract from the overall quality of this very enjoyable and well made IPA.

12 oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy orange/gold with fluffy white head. Aroma is orange, grapefruit, perhaps some mango/papaya, and piney earthy hops. Also a nice balancing aroma of caramel malt. Taste is moderately sweet and quite bitter. Slick mouthfeel, with moderate carbonation. Very good IPA.

Classic affordable session-like IPA. Well balanced with piney grapefruit hop flavor. Faint mineral aspect. Pronounced floral, fruity aroma. Avery is shooting up charts as one of my favorite brewers. You can see the similarities with Majarja, Avery’s Impy IPA.

Poured a oily, fizzy orange amber from the bottle with a fizzy white head. The first aroma was strongly hoppy, overwhleming almost. The aroma then mellowed to an inviting citrus, hop and pine aroma. Initial flavor was bitter and the bitterness continued to the back of the palate. The overall flavor had a mouth watering citrus element to it that make me want to keep drinking. I thought this was very enjoyable, good session beer.
