In the 1700ís one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Coloradoís hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

World of Beer - UCF, Orlando. Beer pours bright golden color and medium white head. The aroma is hoppy: piney and grapefruit notes dominate. Subtle malt aromas. Initial taste is light, sweet and refreshing. Body is a tough heavy for an IPA - almost like a double IPA. Texture is smooth and a little oily. Hop bitterness really settles in on the aftertaste. Really! The body is medium. A good IPA. Well made with no distractions. Hopheads should love this brew, as it really delivers the bitterness on the finish. Not my favorite IPA (I prefer the fresh-hopped variety) but very solid.

(bottle) deep golden colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of kiwi and caramel, ever so slightly buttery, with a touch of cactus juice, some vanilla and floral hops. flavour is mostly herbal hops, more vanilla and starchy pale malts, with some more kiwi, a hint of banana skins and a semi-dry finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

Nice aroma on the olí classic. Floral and lemon dominate with a touch of a deeper dank note in there too. Color is classic ipa light copper with an orange glow. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and has a lively carbonation and nice lingering bitterness on the finish. The slight sweeteness from the malt holds it all together nicely.

Ok IPA. Hoppy yes, astringent bitter, somewhat earthy nice carbonation but not much else to it.

Bottle, amber-gold with a lacing head and aromas of citrus, pine and pineapple. Crisp, dry-sweet and properly hoppy. A great example of how to make a hoppy beer thatís still balanced.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2015 12 oz. can from Louisville Beer Store; some kind of number code on the bottom, but itís smudged and impossible to read. Aroma: Light to moderate clementine with a cereal and butterscotch malt base. Appearance: Very slightly hazy light copper pour with soft carbonation holding up a foamy white head; the head fades into a thin, slightly bubbly skin. Flavor: Butterscotch and clementine very much in balance up front; malts fall off a little in the second half, and allow for bitterness to creep in; the finish is mostly dry and has a lingering bitterness. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Maybe a little old school at this point, but an acceptable IPA. I have the feeling this is probably on the old side; I can only imagine a fresh can would have higher marks.
