On draft in Columbus (OH)
Sitting at the Winking Lizard after a long drive this jumped out as the only place to start. The payoff was a fine sour that met my expectations for the style but is generally not as good as some of the barrel aged stuff coming out of Avery’s cellars. Even so it is worth a sample if you discover it on tap.

Aroma / Appearance - A cloudy golden base looks like watery honey with a thin white head. Pineapples, lemons, and cheesecake smell like a belini in pint form. Without being a saccharine mess it definite leans towards the sweet end of the spectrum.

Flavor / Palate - Tangy sweet pineapple core, mango, and grapefruit are tropical and fresh. The fruity burst of orange and lemon emerge next. Finally the passionfruit takes centerstage in a fruity finish that tastes more like a cocktail at an island resort than anything that most people would think of as beer. This is excellent from start to finish.

On tap at GABF - By the way loved Avery’s setup at the festival. Nice tart wheat, big passionfruit, fruity, tropical. The body of a tripel. Really nothing like I have had. This was killer.

On tap at Avery. Poured a hazy straw colour with a thin whispy white head. The aroma is zesty citrus fruit. The flavour is medium sweet with a zesty sherbet yeast passion fruit palate. Nice to taste but not for a session.

Draft sampled at the brewpub. Pours cloudy pale golden with an off white head. Aroma of strong Belgian yeast and passion fruit. Flavour is light sweet and moderate acidic with the passion fruit dominating and mouth puckering. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Yummy.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2013 Special tapping at Avery. I really like this pour, it’s a great session beer. Light color and very light head. The passion fruit is very strong and it’s almost over the top at times. Overall the beer is medium bodied and finishes wet. Not very much sign of hop, or malt, the yeast is noticeable.
