Witbeer with Passionfruit

Luscious. Juicy. Tart. And like no other! Adding a tropical island flair to a spicy traditional witbier, Liliko’i Kepolo erupt with monumental passionfruit aroma and acidity along with a sublimely succulent finish.

Very tart nose of tropical fruit at the top of the pour. Hazy, almost creamy gold color befitting the wit style. Passionfruit is the headliner here,  lending a very juicy tropical taste that sits on top of the usual wit character. There is just a tiny bit of Juicy Fruit ester that I think comes from a warm ferment or wheat malt rather than  the fruit. There’s also some yeast settling in from this tap pour, all part of a nice profile. Tart overall character means I can take my time finishing it off and reflect on the end of another busy week.

12 oz can. Super hazy yellow-orange with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma of flowers, tropical fruit, wheat, citrus, and white wine. Taste is fruity flowery and sweet-tart. Light-medium bodied, crisp, and a little dry. Full of flavor; quite nice.

Can. A- Passion fruit, wheat, grass, dried fruit skins. A- Yellow color, cloudy liquid, white head. T- Passion fruit, pineapple, orange juice, grass. P- Light body, average texture, medium carbonation, refreshing finish. O- Oh my God this is delicious. Tastes like fresh squeezed passion fruit with a hint of grassy dankness. Very refreshing, I could easily crush a few of these. Might become a regular stable of mine. Very tasty.

Grassy aroma in a cloudy yellow pour. Similarly laid back taste with tart balance and sustained finish. A very refreshing beer - even at the end of winter in NYC.

Well, hi there, passion fruit. Damn, what is it with me suddenly liking (passion) fruit-infused Wheat Ales? First there was Green Flash’s delicious Passion Fruit Kicker. Then, there’s this beer which I have no business spelling or pronouncing. I have zero qualms about drinking it, though. Interestingly, this Wheat Ale captures the more dank side of the fruit. (It’s a flavor that compares favorably Citra-focused hop profiles in IPA’s.) Aroma is hugely tropical. Flavor is mostly juicy sweet with some tartness leftover. This is definitely similar to the Green Flash brew but it’s a beast of its own. This stuff is stupid good.

Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured a murky yellow-gold color with a large creamy yellow-white head that lingered and left excellent lacing. The aroma was sweet papaya, passionfruit, pineapple and yeast. The flavor was tart, bitter and almost sour with passionfruit and pineapple notes. Long tart tropical fruit finish. Moderately full bodied. Well done.
