tap at publican, pours black with tan head, nose has big coffee notes. flavor is extremely roasty, sweet, and harsh alcohol coliding on the back of my palate at the same time. this really bothered me for some reason but everyone else there that night seemed to dig this. probably because they put lighter fluid in their coffee every morning.

Ink black pour with one finger burnt brown head. Super fresh coffee nose, smells like cold extraction. Coffee character is overwhelming and dominating with notes of chocolate. Rich flavor, too much coffee. Bitter burnt coffee and chocolate. Full bodied with some alcohol on the finish.

Black. Just a ring of tan head. Smells like booze and coffee. As if someone put cognac in a dark roast. Slight pruniness? Coffee bomb. TOTALLY smooth. Silky even. Light sweetness and a bread, toasted flavor is present. After a while, alcohol becomes noticeable, side by side with lingering coffee.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 ROGUE (1356) - Newark, Delaware, USA - JAN 6, 2012
On tap at Avery Taproom. Pours a deep black with a small brown head, that quickly recedes into a thin ring. Aroma is full of roasty sweet chocolate and espresso. Big coffee flavors start things off with roasted malts in the background. Midway molasses and dark fruits sweeten things up. Coffee and dark chocolate flavors then carry through to a velvety soft finish with a full, thick mouthfeel. Not harsh at all, with just a little alcohol coming through in the taste, you’d never think it was 15%.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Sean9689 (192) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 5, 2012
On-tap at The Long Room during CCBW. Poured into snifter.
A - Pours black, mocha-colored head, thin cap, spotty lacing.
S - Coffee is right up front, followed by dark chocolate, smooth booze, some toffee, slight roast. Basically, lots of coffee and booze, both very-well done and smooth.
T - Coffee beans, black coffee, dark chocolate, cream, toffee, expresso. Lots of caffeine and lots of alcohol. The 15% (which is what the menu said) is noticeable, but man, it’s still pretty damn smooth.
M - Medium, rich and smooth, light carbonation, creamy roast finish.
O - After a few sips, my face started to feel a bit fuzzy. This is one potent beer, to say the least. The alcohol is very-well hidden and the coffee notes are wonderful. This is what you order for an after dinner drink, no doubt about it. Yum!

Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of coffee, malt, vanilla, roasting, cream, and lactose. Poured pitch black in color with a medium-sized, dark brow, creamy, dense head that lasted throughout. Opaque. Not sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, coffee, cream, roasting, sugar, and slight chocolate. Full body. Slick, viscous texture. Soft to average carbonation. Malt, coffee, cream, vanilla, light chocolate finish. 15.5%ABV is dangerously well hidden throughout.

Rich aroma of roasted chocolate and super thick coffee notes cut in the nose. Pours thick dark black oil in color with an awesome caramel creamy head. The flavor has more coffee than any other beer I have ever tasted. Nice roasted malty notes complement a thick but smooth body. It is incredible how there are no notes of alcohol at all!
