2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Drake (4797) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Served on draft at Timberwood Grille Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very dark brown color with a thin creamy dark brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, grapes, berries and an ashy note. The taste is big roasted malts, big booze, chocolate and grapes. Full bodied, very hot and very astringent. Really not very good at all.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 RayOhm (465) - Fergus, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 5, 2012
jet black, very thick pour. all the characteristics one would want in a stout, coffee, chocolate some licorice and fruityness. amazing that the alcohol is above 15%, you do get a bit of burn but it just adds to the complexity. thanks to Andrew for this one.

What can i say about this beer other then it’s what really got me into crafts hardcore! He pours a deep dark menacing black. He smells of caramel, chocolate, malts and booze. He tastes fantastic after warming. Thanks you for coming up from the depths of hell for this great beer!

Thx to Polomagnifico !!
2010 version ( 15,95% ABV )
Head: medium, espresso/moka , creamy/foamy
Colour: very dark brown , almost black
Smell: lots of creamy milk chocolat , dried fruits, fruit licquor but not really boozey or alcoholic , ’i like that !!’ , hazelnuts, tiny bit of coffee licquor , more like irish or french coffee, a bit of vanilla as well, slightly roasted and wineous when "aired" a bit , so good !
Taste: alcoholic/licquorish sweet/candy sirup in the start, then comes in some touches of anise , malts, and some coffee bitterness , you have a slight alcohol burn in the troath , sweet sticky oily end , with a dry slightly roasted finish ,
Altough this isn’t really in the line of usual Imperial Stouts , i really like the beer on it’s own , and since i don’t rate a beer because of it’s style , i’d say it’s a succes for me !! , awesome and i want to try it again when aged a bit !!

Like no other Stout in regards to its sheer complexity and sophistication. The flavor and alcohol content make this a slower enjoy. An absolute must.

For a while my knowledge of beer was limited to the basic overproduced crap most people drink and enjoy. My beer enjoyment went as far as to put yuengling on the top of my list. Not that this is a bad drink but it certainly doesn’t belong on the top. Then I was introduced to the idea of craft beer and my introduction to stouts was via the Mephistopheles which immediately opened up my mind to a whole new world of imbibing possibilities. Mephistopheles was then and still is my favorite beer.

Batch 4 (2008) in January 2012 - One of the scariest, darkst beer I’ve seen with a rich and clingy head of tan foam. Thick and boozy raisins with rum-like spice and acetone on the nose. Thick and sweet with a definite cigar like tobacco note. It really is sweet and incredibly heavy with dried fruit character. Dates and raisins to the fore. It’s very balanced, surprisingly with the tart booze and intense and esoteric bitterness balancing the incredible sweetness of this beer. It’s warm to the bottom of your belly. This is a great beer. I’m not sure I’d buy it over once a year but it’s noteworthy for sure.
