Commercial Description:
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Batch 2 (Nov 2006): 16.03% ABV.
Batch 3 (Nov 2007): 16% ABV.

Jakebra crush. Black like death. Feel the alcohol burn all the way down. One intense mofo of a beer. Flavor hides the alcohol, lots of dark fruits. One hell of a kick. Awesome brew.

First impression: Me, I like it! Dark, dark coloured, black. Light brown head, mostly lasting. Aroma has lots of dark malts, coffee, chocolade, a bit laqurice. Strong flavor, long lasting. Heavy sweet and bitter, dark and roasted. Full bodyed, ceramy, heavy warming alcohol.

Pours black with a small dark brown head. Strong aroma of booze, raisins, coffee, and some slight chocolate. Flavor follows the aroma quite well with lots of raisin and coffee, a bit of vanilla, and warming alcohol.

Draught@EBF 2008. Jet black, Low tan head. Dark roasted malts, alcohol, dried fruits, licorice and bitter chocolate in the aroma. Taste has a strong and sweet roasted malt base with a rummy accent. Coffe, chocolate and charcoal is there too. Thick texture, big body. Alcohol in the finish. Extremely powerful, and a little rough around the edges.

Bottle from American Beer Distributors, courtesy of Sim. Thick, black and tan, vinous legs coat the glass at a swirl. Roasty malt and chocolate with liquorice, coffee, molasses and alcohol in the nose. Taste is much the same with some slight bittering hops underneath all the commotion. It’s full on and boozy but I quite liked it, although that’s coming from a guy who loved Utopias and Triple bock.

Black, no head. Tar and booze aroma. Roasted malt and boozy body. Quite fun, I guess, in limited quantities.

(Bottled, EBF) Pitch black, small tan head. Tar, licorice aroma. Full-bodied. Alcoholic warming palate. Roasted malty. Sweet, some licorice, long alcoholic aftertaste. Mortal stout.
