dyetube (397), Dallas, Texas, USA Jan 4, 2008 This beer pours black with a medium tan head leaving no lcaing down the sides. On the nose is alcohol, roasted coffee, and chocolate. First off the the flavors do kinda weld themselves together well, but there is a strong alcohol presence. it starts off like coffee then ends like roasted chocolate. I really liked this one. you should try it! Cheers! grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Jan 4, 2008 Pours very dark with good sized tan head. Aroma of chocolate, fruit, and alcohol. Nice mouthfeel, but the alcohol is a bit much. Warms well. performula (147), Triangle Area, North Carolina, USA Jan 3, 2008 Beer is truly amazing at 16%. Huge chocolate and alcohol scent. Dark black with about 2mm of head from a heavy dump. Warm finish. For such a big beer the percentage is covered well. GriffinAvenue (395), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA Dec 31, 2007 Bottle. Deep black coloring with ample 1" tannish head. Smooth and steady dissipation. Raisin, brown sugar, malty, fudge hints. Thicker than average body but not unduly heavy. 2 part flavoring. Chocolatey, spicy, smokey initial wave with acidic, soda-carbonation 2nd half. An excellent stout and a pleasing beer. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Dec 29, 2007 Bottle pours black, with a monster tan head that clings (unexpected due to the high alcohol content). The aroma is of deep dark roasted malt and dark fruits. The flavor is dark, dark fruits, pepper, alcohol, sweetness, more alcohol, sweetness, plums, fire, damnation, holy crap, soy, more candy, my wife warned me about this, just plain out of this world strong beer. The palate actually has something to bring to this party with a decent carbonation and a rich body that the yeast were generous enough to allow us humans to have left from the fermentation process. Drunk. This is overall quite the beer. A caldera. Do not drink this unless you are home. Slipstream (735), USA Dec 25, 2007 Thanks to my cousin for a bottle of this from Batch 1, 2006. This is another one of those high alcohol beers with gothic / Satanic names and a picture of a demon on the label. But this stuff might really deserve it. At 15.1% alcohol, it is the strongest beer I have ever tried. The brew is dark with a light brown head - at first it looked like some weird type of egg nog. There is a strong yeasty aroma and a taste similar to whiskey. This drink reminded me of a visit I made to a small brewery once, where one of the partners gave us a tour. He told us that beer and whiskey were basically the same stuff, and gave us a taste from a very expensive keg of whiskey that was being aged. Well, Mephistopheles tasted like that did. It is rich, dark, and sweet, with a taste of coffee and prunes. This is very potent - more like a punch than a beer - and you can smell it from a good distance away. Take it easy with this stuff, boys - no need to pound down a bunch of these! douglas88 (1559), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Dec 25, 2007 Updated: Apr 6, 2008Bottle. Pours a dark swirling black with a small weak beige head. The aroma is dark fruits, sweet candies, and a dark dungeon. The taste is of course dominated by the 16% alcohol, but in a nice way. It’s really quite drinkable, just take your time. There is hints of cherries, plums and raisins, burnt malts, coffee, maybe even soy. Needless to say this is not a session beer, but in certain situations it’s a real champion. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA Dec 25, 2007 This was from batch 3, November, 2007 -- The 12 ounce bottle poured a deep ebony beverage, allowing no light through. It had a small smooth frothy tan head that was partially lasting and left some lacing on the glass. The aroma is generally sweet at first. Upon closer examination it possesses a strong presence of dark sweet dried fruits such as dates and raisins accompanied by notes of sweet sherry. The body was quite full with average carbonation and a slightly sharp mouthfeel. The flavor starts out quite sweet and continues throughout the long finish. There is a decided alcohol warmth to the finish that just keeps on giving. I suspect that this one would benefit from being laid down for several years
