Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Apr 20, 2007 Very dark brown. Weak head. Underdeveloped malts, little roast. Harsh roast, lots of alcohol. Thin for size, and I miss those sugars as they would take the edge off the harsh roast and alcohol. Rough...so lacking in style after those Danish examples. Boliv (188), New York, USA Apr 19, 2007 Bottle (Batch 2)-pours thick, dark, releasing aromas of chocolate, alcohol, and coffee. Very smooth, alcohol is hidden pretty well. Took a while to drink this one, but in a good way. Plus, it improved as it warmed. Amazing nightcap. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Apr 16, 2007 Black Color with Espresso Head. Bittersweet Syrupy Roasts... a TON of Alcohol...Thick Creamy Mouthfeeel.. Super Sweet Sugary Malt Notes..Coffee, Chocolate..Vanilla.. Insane Alcohol on This Brew. Would be Wonderful to Try Again for a Solid Few Years to See if It Becomes More Approacable. georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Apr 14, 2007 This beer was awesome!!!! It’s not the type of beer that you can chug down, it’s much more sophisticated than that. This beer should be sipped very slowly given the high alcohol content. Besides it is so good that you will want it to last as long as possible. This is what an imperial stout is all about. BobbyW3363 (154), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Apr 14, 2007 Dark black with a brown head. Chocolate fruity sweet alcohol aroma. Very complex flavor of chocolate, coffee, and fruit. Velvety texture. Very good. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Apr 14, 2007 Poured dark black; syrupy. MInimal head. Aroma was strong and unique; vinous, kark fruit, chocolate, some wood and of course just a hint of alcohol. Oily and thick; coating; good palate. Definitely was a sipper for me. Flavor had a strong sweetness; chocolate and grape flavors; some dark fruit and a little hop bittering. Alcohol caused some throat warming. Would definitely have again, but probably split it with some one. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Apr 13, 2007 Black as a cave with a small creamy light brown head. Shoyu, teriakki sauce, Worcestershire sauce, a hint of liquid smoke, this smells like it would make one hell of a BBQ Steak marinade! Very sweet, wow, I wasn’t expecting that sweet of a flavor, like a liqueur filled chocolate, some vanilla bean and nutty flavors but the sticky sweetness overwhelms everything, even the alcohol. Has a vinous aftertaste, port-like flavors. Full bodied with a nice creamy feel. Overall it’s a tasty, interesting flavored, complex brew but it’s just too damned sweet to become one of my favorites. Odd thing is, I usually like thick sweet beers. Too much of a good thing. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Apr 12, 2007 Updated: Apr 13, 2007Dark, dark brown color with a brownish orange head. Strong aroma of hops, dried fruit, cherries and chocolate. Initial flavor is bittersweet. Strong chocolate and dried fruit. Carmelized malt, coffee, and chili pepper accents. Finishes bitter with a lightly creamy palate and a dark coffee aftertaste of long duration and final alcoholic burn. Very good overall.
