COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Enjoyed a batch 4 (2008) in June of 2012. This beer is the real deal. ABV so high it’s obnoxious... because I can only handle one at a time... and the alcohol starts to overwhelm the taste. Jet black in appearance. It takes a few tastes for the true complexities to come out. Overall though, not my favorite beer. I prefer a little lower ABV (~10%) and a little more complex, but definitely a beer worth checking out!

Bottle 12oz 2016. My abv read %17.something. Big aromas here with little alcohol detected. Big brownie, chocolate, coffee, yeasty. The flavor is big alcohol in the nose upfront with chocolate, coffee, roast, and smoke in the finish. Not very complex but has a rich character almost like fudge, a little bit at a time. Medium sweet and lightly bitter.

Batch 11. Pours a thick viscous black oil consistency with two fingers of dark khaki foam. Lots of dark cocoa, some licorice, boozy dark fruit... a little volatile overall with some sharpie marker poking through. Not very cohesive but has enough boost to get it down the hatch.

Tyk som tjære! Stærk kaffe/chokolade smag, men med 16% så trækker den også fra land Næsten ingen kulsyre eller skum, men det er heller ikke meningen i sådan en øl. Den drikkes jo næppe som tørstslukker heller. Stærk lakridssmag i eftersmagen.

Bottle from Total Wine in Naples FL (I think). 17.5% 2014 vintage. Holy shit. It’s like sweet caramelized candy sugar and Belgian yeast with rum soaked dates and raisins, coffee, chocolate and walnuts which then evolves into a burnt smoky caramelized biscuit.

2009 bottle shared at tasting. Caramel brown pour. Strong alcohol and caramel aroma. Taste follows, a little hot but still really good.

Pours black with a roasted tan head that does not collapse. Creamy head with outstanding lacing. Coffee, roasted nuts, charcoal, smoke and a hidden sweetness to the aroma. Creamy texture. Definite sweetness to the finish. I think the alcohol is minimal in the taste. Suprising for a 17.1 alcohol %. Does warm the insides up. Strong coffee taste. Somewhat of a burnt toast taste. I have actually been afraid of this beer because of the alcohol% but it was well put together. Will feel this one in the morning.

Jet black pour with a single finger espresso head. Aroma of raisin and some coffee. Slight yeast on the aroma as well. Huge thick mouth, chewy and syrupy. Pretty hot, might mellow out with some age. Lace present. Lots of bitter dark malt with hints of toffee, chocolate and a little nuttiness. A little fruit as well.

Bottle @ parents. Appearance: pours clear black with powerful off-white creamy head and lacing. aroma/taste: caramel, coffee, chocolate, alcohol and smoke nd some dark fruity notes. palette: strong roasted malty aroma, medium carbonation, full body, notable roasted sweetness, somewhat balanced by a medium to distinct bitterness, long duration and an oily texture. Overall: intense and overwhelming
