COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Bottle from nov 2014. 17.1%. Pitch black pour with a mocha head. Roast, coffee, oak, wet soil, bandaid. Can smell alcohol. Feel the alcohol but the strong carbonation and the full body helps. Silky and creamy. Wow

Bottle to Tulip. Black/brown opaque, dark creamy head. Aroma and taste are so complex this is like a meal unto itself (check the calories!). Sugar, caramel, burnt, toasty, chocolate all stand out. Malt and nuts. Dates. Need I say boozy? Chewy. Lingering mouthful of dessert with espresso. Make sure you can give it your full attention.

Bottle, black body, decent walnut colored head fades quick. Aroma molasses, coffee, spruce, mint, cherries. Taste is molasses, anise, shoyu, plums, spruce, vanilla, bourbon, citrus rind, black pepper, mint. Fairly sweet at first, not saccharine really, and tries (really wants to be) but doesn’t quite make it to dry finish. Palate is very rich and thick, carbonation subdued.

On bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Pitch black color, good brownish foam. High aroma intensity; roasted aromas, licorice, malt, cocoa. Full body & high complexity. Some sweetness- ok balance, ends up on the sweet side. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian - thanks a lot! Pours dark brownish with a beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt and hints and licorice. Moderate sweet with tasty roasty notes and mild bitterness in the finish. Nice one!

Very sweet on the nose and palate. Toasty quite a bit alcohol. On it's own it's way to sweet. Together with a dark chocolate dessert is superb!

Aroma is powerful from coffee, hard roasted malt and chocolate. The force is strong in this one. Taste is also powerful, but still under control. Lots of dried dark fruits, burnt coffee grouse, a little salty from daemon sweat and almost spicy hot. You almost feel your soul being sent in advance down to inferno. Awesome!

On tap @ Capitol Beer. Black in color with a khaki head. Smells like tar, sugar, and roasted malts. A lot of burnt qualities to it as well. Sticky, sugary, and boozy. Slight soy sauce. There is just an intense sugary, fruity sweetness on the tongue. Tons of roast and burnt sugar as well. A lot of booze. Too hot and too sweet. This is a beer 2009 me would have given a 4+.

2014 bottle from SB. Drank it in Mankers appartment during CBC15. Pitch black oily liquid with a short brown head. Really nice roasted aroma with slightly burnt chocolate cake, raisins, vanilla, licorice and hot booze. Don’t stick your nosein too deep. Sweet roasted taste with big licorice, some burnt salty bread crust, vanilla and figs and slight soy. Big alcohol heat. Huge alcohol body, low to no carbonation, oily/sticky. Throat burn. It’s way too hot. But still you can’t deny the flavours. It’s a hate/love thing I guess.

2014 Bottle, 17.1% abv. Black with a brown, creamy head, lots of lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, tar, cocoa, peat. Taste is roasted, coffee, tar, smoked charkuteries, liquorice, warming alcohol. Roasted, boozy finish. Big body, medium carbonation, slightly oily. Surprisingly easy to drink considering the rather high ABV. Very nice one!
