COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Pours a cavernous black with a brown head that disappeared. Aromas of burnt malts, coffee, chocolate and a bit of brimstone. Well canít say this beer isnít intimidating as hell, because it is. There is so much going on I canít even begin to wrap my head around it. So much coffee and chocolate, as well as espresso coming through at times. But damn, this beer is powerful. The devil is in the detail....

12oz bottle. Black pour with tan head. Strong malty nose with some dark fruit. Very rich flavors of malts, coffee, and alcohol. Burn in the finish. Too much rich flavor to enjoy the different components that make up this beer. A overwhelming beer. To be enjoyed only on the coldest nights.

Pours dark black with a hint of crimson when held up to the light. Licorice and fruit aroma, and the same crimes through like a fine liqueur. Coffee and fruit finish with a hint of chocolate underneath. Fantastic! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A very full bodied brew, oily in texture. Chocolate and licorice flavors are present. A little boozy, which is expected.

12 oz Bottle. Tasted on 1/9/15. Bottle from Moore Liquor. Batch #10 November 2014. The aroma was bold with strong boozy slightly chocolate with notes of anise. Taste was very deep, rich with a full body notes of dark or chocolate covered cherries, light dark fruit notes with a nice dry finish that leaves undertones of coffee. A great stout & at 17.1% abv very easy to drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Trappist Westveteren XII Trappist glass From: Albertsons in Alpine, Calif. Price: $8.99 Purchased: Jan. 7, 2014 Consumed: Jan. 8, 2015 Misc.: Batch No. 10; Bottled Nov., 2014; Red foiling Poured a pitch black color with one finger of dark tan head. (Sight - 3.50) Smelled black coffee malts, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, smoky fire, light crayon, toffee, caramel, roasted nuts, licorice and some more coffee. Booziness comes in late. (Smell - 4.38) Tasted earthy, gritty coffee beans, followed by that 17-plus percent alcohol. Also dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, licorice, smoky woodfire, roasty nuts, chocolate syrup and dark cocoa nibs. (Taste - 4.25) Full body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, warming finish. (Feel - 4.63) Another great Avery Imperial Stout. I wouldnít hesitate to get it again. (Overall - 4.25) 4.28 95 A

Pitch black with orange-khaki head. Aroma of minty hops, roasted malt, tobacco, and bitter chocolate. Flavor is deep roasted malt, unsweetened chocolate, molasses, caramel, and some dark fruit. Almost a wood-like dryness on the finish. Alcohol is well-hidden for the ABV. Rich, coating mouthfeel.

shared bottle by a friend. poured a dark black colour with a nice fluffy tanned head. lotís of dark bitter chocolate in the nose, caramel, booze, dried red fruits, murky coffee, roasted malts, cherrie, plums, fluffy hops, licorice, bit salty, raisins, spiced alcohol note, sticky mouthfeel, the appearance looked very promising, but it was a bit of a disappointment. and I canít get those high avg ratings... I donít even think the BA version of this one can get close to the uncle jacobs stout

Big, wonderful beer. Definitely better than the Uncle Jacobís and for me a little better than the Tweak. Pours black with decent mocha head and lacing. Lots of dark, bitter chocolate with coffee. Very bitter finish. Thick pour, a little oily but no syrupy sense - surprising for high alcohol. Great stuff. Tap at Churchkey Avery event.
