Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Batch 6 pours black with a tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate fruit, malts and alcohol. Taste has many of the same characteristics. The malts and coffee come through nicely. Nice beer

This beer is simply spectacular. Everything I look for and expect in a Russian stout. Cheery, espresso, chocolate. Coffee, nuts, roasty

Batch 5 Bottled in Dec 2009. Rich mocha chocolate nose with earth, tobacco and espresso in the mouth. Deep gloss silky shiny deep black appearance. Still hot after all these years anf could easily develop over the next 20+ years. Very pitent and sappy.

4/30/2009 1:0 6:05 AM Queen’s Day in Amsterdam. Drinking the last bottle from Coldbrewky. A mean black pour with murky brown head. This looks like some stout. Nose of roasted malts and dark chocolate. A smashing taste of chocolates, caramel, dark fruits and roasted malts. It’s really powerful but also really creamy and goes down well. The high ABV barely noticeable. Thanks again Steve for yet another excellent brew.

Draft at Pour it Black. Pours near black with a big light brown head. Aroma is mostly coffee, and this isn’t even the coffee version! Also almond, oak. Flavor is dark chocolate, almond, coffee. Grassy bitter and a touch of oak and rum in the finish. Good job Avery for making a run barrel beer that isn’t too thin.

12.04.2015, 0,35l bottle (2014 vintage) @ home:
Big brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and sweet, dark malts, caramel, soy sauce, dark sugar, chocolate, coffee, grass, alcohol, hops, pine needles, licorice. Taste is kind of harsh and boozy, sour coffee, booze, harsh hops, grass, dark malts, burnt caramel, pine needles, bark, minerals. Longlasting bitterness, harsh boozy mouthfeel. A typical beer I need to rerate at some point, when it’s been aged for many many years.
