Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Poured on tap at avery and drank the 2009&2011 simultaneously. Drunk the 2011 first. Very black color with tan head. Has a bitter sweet coffee chocolate scent when smelled. Very smooth body that goes down easily. Slightly fruity, kinda like cherries. Very delicious. Drank the 09 at the same time... The 09 has a much whiter head and smells more bitter. Tastes more like alcohol than the 11. Has much more potent smell in my opinion.

2006 Vintage, poured from a bottle at the 23rd Anniversary Party. Black, with a small, tan head. The nose is milk chocolate, espresso, dates, cinnamon, and dates. Very sweet flavor, with a perfect touch of bitterness. Lots of booze, but smooth and pleasant. Immense body, but a surprisingly smooth and velvety, luxurious mouthfeel. This stout is mindbogglingly delicious, smooth, complex, and smooth.

Bottle, Batch No. 10. It poured a dark brown almost black color with a tan head. The aroma was of dried dark fruits, chocolate, cherries, caramel and booze. The taste was similar to the aroma with more booze, chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and cherries. It had a medium body and low carbonation. Mighty tasty.

17.1abv 2016. Bottle. Pours jet black. Smells roasty and chocolate. The plate is heavy and sticky. The taste is great. Roasty chocolate. Licorice taste. Very smooth and thick but the taste is great. Good beer.

17,1% ABV. And that is the only big downside with this beer. The alcohol taste is too dominant. Maybe it benefits from cellaring? Otherwise I love it. The palate is excatly what I want, a thick body, oily texture with moderate carbonation and a slightly bitter finish. You have aromas of soy, chocolate and roasted malt. Complex, but as I said, a bit to boozy.

Bottle from the brewery shared with my buddy Mick. Nutty ethanol and chocolate chip cookie dough in the aroma on a deep only black with a tan head. Rich full mouthfeel but this is hella boozy over roasty bitter chocolate, oats, toffee and tons of heat. These beasts are good but to me the high ABV detracts rather than enhances.

Pours a nice black. Coffee/chocolate and little tobacco aroma. Flavor is awesome, rich and smooth, like roasted espresso loaded with dark bitter chocolate and kinda sweet. The alcohol is well hidden among the massive flavors.

Shared 355 ml bottle at local tasting. Vintage 2007, ABV is 16%. Black colour, small tan head. Intense aroma of fusel and soy sauce, also roast malts and tar. Sweet flavour, intense malty and roasty notes, also molasses and liquorice.
