Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

ick, was like drinking malt syrup. I understand its supposed to be crazy, but i think a rating of 99%ile is a bit outrageous, but then again, how do you even classify this beast?

@ Basunen 15-3-28: doften är ganska klen men smaken är fantastisk stor av sötlakrits. Alkoholen och hettan känns lite i eftersmaken men absolut inte dominant. Mycket gott. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

Pours very thick, like burnt oil with very little head. The high alcohol content is obvious from the start. Taste of coffee, a hint of espresso with grappa, warm on the palate.

Shared at Dangerous Bottleshare #7. Pours pitch black with a thick, dark brown head. Aromas of raisins, coffee, dates, licorice, roast, bitter dark chocolate, dark sugar, malts. Taste is raisins, dates, coffee, licorice, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, roasted malts. Alcohol is pretty well hidden on this. Not really my style of imperial stouts, but pretty darn nice nonetheless!

Bottle batch 10. Black with a medium sized dark brown head. The nose is alcoholic with some chocolate, sugar and some light bubblegum. Taste is sugary and alcoholic, I can feel the alcohol burn all the way down. The sugar covers it a bit, but it is still pretty hefty. Astringent finish. Flavour has chocolate cake, sugar, syrup, some kind of bubblegum/candyfloss thing, vanilla, light dark dried fruits. Full body, oily/syrupy texture, soft carbonation, heavy sweet, medium bitter, hot and harsh alcohol that gives me shivers. Strange experience; I like the flavours and want to drink it, but it is way too harsh to be enjoyable even in small amounts. Shame, I think I would like it a lot if it was toned down.

Arôme de biscotte et de pain grillé ainsi que de houblon mijoté. Amertume très forte mais caché par une base monstrueuse. C’est très bon mais c’est trop, limite buvable, à partager!

12 oz bottle from whole foods. 17.1% stated abv. Giant foamy nut brown head. Midnight Black. Brown sugar nose with some black bread and caramel as well. Perhaps some pepper? Some alcohol on the nose after a bit. Lactose, pepper, molasses flavoring. Some sweetness lingers, vanilla cappuccino. No alcohol present flavor wise, which is probably why it is so highly regarded. Feel buzzed after two sips.

Bottle at a big tasting (Nörprovning 2015). This was a bottle from 2007. Dark malty smell with dried fruit and caramel. Similar taste. Awsome beer! I love how the sweet malts balance the roasted aroma.

10oz pour. Golden valley MN. Pours dark dark brown, basically black. No head. Nose is brown sugar, molasses, alcohol, a little nutty. Taste is sweet upfront. A little sharpness from carbonation. Some bitterness. Palate is medium-full. Frothy texture. Long boozy finish.
