COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

One of the most flavorful beers a I have ever come across. Poured jet black with a thin light brown head. The commercial description for this beer is a very good one. I would also add a slight smokiness that is very appealing. Alcohol is very apparent but just reminds that something great is being drank.

Opaque, thick lacing. Extremely full body, very alcoholic as one would expect from a 15.4% beer, silky mouthfeel, lingering palate. Moderate roast bitterness, sweet. Chocolate, raisins, uva de cavalo, sweet and flavorful finish. . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330 ml bottle from the beer store in Pompano Beach Fl. Poured dark, deep brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma of some roast malt and a lively hop pine nose. Tastes like cough syrup run through a heavily used bong and then had Pinesol added for flavor. Completely un-enjoyable

Bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Batch 2, 2006 vintage. Pours pitch black with a rather small fizzy dark brown head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is intense, slightly sweet, fruity and oxidized with roasted malts, raisins in rum, bitter chocolate, leather, alcohol, prunes, dates, salty liquorice candy, dark roast coffee, moist soil, red wine, soy sauce and hints of cardboard and hay. Taste is sweet, bitter, tiny sour, malty, fruity and heavily oxidized with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, cardboard, the dust you’ll find places you haven’t cleaned for ages, prunes, raisins, cheap red wine, moist soil, leather, old stale soy sauce, burnt caramel, charred wood, dark roast coffee, sour cherries, alcohol, sherry and hints of goji berries. Mouthfeel is fat, oily, boozy, round, tiny fruity tart and full bodied. Finish is bitter, tiny sour, malty and fruity with roasted malts, cheap red wine, hay, moist soil, leather, bitter chocolate, raisins, prunes, dark roast coffee, alcohol, sour cherries, burnt caramel and hints of sour cherries. 50% of the sips is awesomely oxidized sherry imperial stout goodness. The other 50% of the sips are an oxidized carboard, leather cheap red wine mess. An exiting experience thanks to the rotting skills of Mr Blursi. Thank you man!

Omg! This imperial stout tasted like anise and black licorice. Great body to this pitch black imperial stout.

Batch 9 Bottle from Bevmo. Aroma is chocolate and booze. Taste is like a boozy chocolate brownie with hints of cherries, coffee, tons of roast and super dark fruits. Great stout especially after dinner.

Couldn’t wait to try this one. With 100 pt. rating and a cost of $8 per bottle ($3 more than BCS) it had a lot to live up to. Appearance is midnight black, thick looking on the pour with a ton of brown foam that sticks to the glass as it goes down. It has an aroma of bourbon/rum, coffee, some coconut, light tobacco, some alcohol. Excellent texture. Silky, low carbonation, long lingering finish. Truly remarkable mouthfeel, 5+. The taste was a little simple at first, but everything suggested in the aroma opens up with the aftertaste. I like to taste the alcohol in my imperial stouts, and this one does not lack in that category. The overall taste is like pouring a healthy shot of really good whiskey into some good, expensive coffee. Not sure if it’s worth $8 for a 12-oz. bottle, but very good.

Bottle at Blind Tiger Ale House, NYC. Black, medium tan foam. Aroma is not particularly interesting - just plenty of dark malt and booze, but pleasant nonetheless. Taste is syrupy - so much stout sludge (completely understandable given 15.4%). Very low carbonation. Slides down, but not overly complex. One note on the flavours - dark malt. As warms mild fruitiness and smokiness comes out as well. Nice mild bitterness on finish. Overall, like this one more than any other extremely alcoholic stout (the over 13 percent division).

A beast of a beer. Pours black with billowing mocha head. Gorgeous beer. Big umami aromas... soy sauce, dark chocolate, anise. Dark chocolate flavors and more umami goodness. Not a lot of sweetness.. But still a great stout...I suppose there isn’t supposed to be a lot of sweetness to a stout that’s called Mephistopheles.

From the taphouse pours a nice dark color with a fizzy tan head that lasts a good while. Aroma is nice and sweet malty with roasted coffee notes but not overpowering like the Tweak. You can get some of the boozy aroma on this and is not unoticable. There may be choclate but hard to determine. Flavor is sweet and roasty however you can tell the alcohol in it. This could do well with some aging. You can get the coffee but hard to pick out any chocolate. You definitley get a heavy malt. Mouthfeel is silky and boozy carbonation is average. Overall a solid beer but I think would be amazing with some age.

Wow. Shouldn't have had this at 11am. Black oily pour from bottle. Thick. Smoke. Nutty coffee malty sugary taste. A massive beer obviously. Gotta appreciate it
