4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
One of the most flavorful beers a I have ever come across. Poured jet black with a thin light brown head. The commercial description for this beer is a very good one. I would also add a slight smokiness that is very appealing. Alcohol is very apparent but just reminds that something great is being drank.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 vintage with ABV of 16.2%. Oily black liquid that leaves a coating of oily brown film when I swirl the snifter. The aroma is almost like a port wine, deep dark fruit, mostly like prunes. Hints of burnt coffee bean, earthy.
After I sip this I am again reminded of a port wine type flavor. Wood, red grapes, dark fruits, chocolate and tobacco. Hints of cherries and Jeez even after two years the alcohol is noticeable in the sip as well as the deep warming burn after the sip. The body is pretty nice and the texture is on the oily side. I could have held this another year but.... I wanted a monster stout and by God, this is one.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Batch 8, tasted @ two years old. Aroma is dark and dry with some tobacco. Appearance is black with a thin head. Taste is of dark fruit and a stout dark malt with loads of dryness. Hints of coffee and rum. Palate is dry and sweet. Overall, a good stout. Hard to believe it is two years old because the flavors are so bright. Would like to try it spirit barreled.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Batch 7. Koleminer20 was gracious enough to share. All hail koleminer20. Aroma is bourbon, licorice, vanilla, chocolate, slight booze. Appearance is black as night, tan head. Taste is roasty, licorice, some booze presence but subtle, lots of bourbon. Mouthfeel is thick. Real thick. The subtle booze has caused my sinuses to burn...not in such a bad way that it’s unpleasant but it’s quite noticeable. Overall...wow. This beer is quite good. The only thing hindering it is that it may be a little too intense. But still definitely worth a shot.

Had the 16.2% addition. Nice and smokey. Very heavy but worth every sip. Only share with someone who appreciates the rich, deep, darkness of a stout on fire.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a pitch black colored beer with a tiny brown head floating atop. The small, film like head persists for quite some time with it eventually fading leaving a good deal of lacing on the sides of the glass. Upon swirling the glass the thick and viscous nature of the brew can be seen, with it clinging to the sides of the glass taking quite some time to find its way back to the bottom where gravity wants it to be.
Smell – The aroma is big and bold with a strong sweet showing. Roasted and burnt malts with coffee and dark chocolate smells make for the rich dark base. The heavy sweetness is a mix of raisin, prune, caramel, and some vanilla. These dark and sweet smells combined with a strong boozy presence to give a very warming smell.
Taste – The taste begins big and sweet with lots of roasted malt and some sweet chocolate, dark fruits of raisin and prune, along with some flavors caramel. Vanilla is present up front as well melding well with the sweet cocoa roasted malt. A roasted coffee flavor as well as some char and more woody hop flavors come to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. As these tastes come, some of the sweetness fade a bit. Toward the end of the taste some flavors of smoke and alcohol come to the tongue. Along with these, the taste bitters quite a bit more as some bitter hop and more bitter coffee come to the tongue. The combination of all the flavors end up leaving a very roasty and slightly more bitter coffee, cocoa and hop flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was rather thick and chewy with a carbonation level that was rather average. The thickness coated the mouth bathing the tongue in all the intensely sweet, roasty, and even moderately bitter flavors of the brew. The average carbonation level made it rather more drinkable for a 15 + abv. beer with the combo of body and carbonation making for a nice feeling brew.
Overall – Another nice big series brew by Avery. Huge on the sweet and roasted flavors with a decent bitterness and a great feel. Quite tasty.

0.355l bottle 2012 model from my Secret Santa, bytemensis. Huge thanks! Looks really good in the glass this one. A really jet oily black pour on this one and it has a nice thick lacing deep dark espresso brown head. It’s super toasty and roasted on the nose. A lot of espresso and cocoa powder with both sweet superb dark chocolate and some wood tones. I ALSO get traces of honey here. Lovely lovely. So much intense flavor! It not an understatement to say that it’s dark, really sweet and roasted in the taste this. As good a burned or even charred with lots of nice dark things that works well together. Strong cocoa powder and cocoa nibs, I get charred wood, sweet sticky vanilla, dried dark fruits and a super strong also burn that combines all the roasty elements. After the swallow you are left with the same flavor you get from eating good quality dark Belgian chocolate. A superb tasty mighty and powerful one. A true sipper, definitely not something you chug down! Huge thanks for the bottle! 20.04.2014

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I found a Batch 2 (Nov 2006) in my parent’s garage along with a few other nicely aged beers. This stout held up nicely. Head is a little flat but not too bad. Big, roast heavy aroma. Notes of chocolate, vanilla, a little pepper, coffee, and molasses. Licorice finish. Still a lot of alcohol burn - it hasn’t mellowed at all.
