COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mephistopheles is the crafty shape shifter, the second fallen angel. Amazingly complex, coal black, velvety and liqueurish, this demon has a bouquet of vine-ripened grapes, anise and chocolate covered cherries with flavors of rum-soaked caramelized dark fruits and a double espresso finish. Mephistopheles is the final installment of "The Demons of Ale" series.

Pours oil black with thick brown head. Sweet coffee with chocolate and roasty aroma. Flavor is strong carbon with lots of bittersweet burning and an epic amount of alcohol. Amazingly rich body and an ass that doesn’t quit. Delicious.

Big, wonderful beer. Definitely better than the Uncle Jacob’s and for me a little better than the Tweak. Pours black with decent mocha head and lacing. Lots of dark, bitter chocolate with coffee. Very bitter finish. Thick pour, a little oily but no syrupy sense - surprising for high alcohol. Great stuff. Tap at Churchkey Avery event.

Starts with a super chocolate and cherry punch. Has some grape notes. Slightly boozy which is amazing since it is 17.1 percent alcohol. Pours black with a thick tan head. Had a bottle pour at home ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"i agree with the last rating, but at a lower level...at the start, the alcohol seemed like half of it’s 16%, but was more assertive by the end. Never did it taste like a 16%-18% beer, though. I thought the sheer complexity of the aroma and flavor were nice, although it wasn’t as smooth as World Wide from DFH, but maybe more complex. Dark, chocolate covered fruits, coffee, slight smoke, molasses. hops. A big sipping beer in every way, with a lasting finish. Well done."

Deep roasted and sweet flavor, not as balanced as some other bourbon stouts (to be expected) but very well executed as Avery frequently does. A little on the sweet side for my taste, but very good nonetheless.
