Vas19 (211), Maryland, USA Jun 13, 2008 Batch 2, Nov 2006. Pours black with a medium sized brown head. Very belgian-esque nose, lots of dark fruit with a hint of chocolate. The flavors have such distinct layers in this beer. First there is a sweet malt and fruit component. Next there is very wine-like middle ground where the alcohol becomes noticeable but not overpowering. The finish is blowing my mind, the most addicting roast coffee flavor I have ever tasted. An amazing creation. Let it warm and sip it slowly.
brokephibroke (34), , Colorado, USA Aug 19, 2008 Beautiful thick black pour with a nice, thick short lasting chocolate milk head. Definate fresh roast burnt coffee aroma with a bright sweetness along for the ride. Taste is sweet, mince-meat like with a (and I hate to say it) licorice finish, it also has soy sauce in there. Palate is great, thick and coating with a long finish. Got to hand it to Avery on this unique brew. blipp (683), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle, batch 2. Pours near black with a tan head. Roasted aroma with dark chocolate, wood and a hint at cherry like fruit. Palate is bit bozzy and harsh, but it really doesn’t diminish the overall experience. Roasted flavor, a bit sweet even, with dark chocolate and a long coffee finish. Very nice. Collint (322), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Aug 14, 2008 Bottle Batch 3, all the way from Beer and Keg World Boca Raton Florida. Pours a solid black beer with a huge tan creamy head. Aroma is a dark oil of dark chocolate and dark fruit. Flavor is an intense kick of roast liquerish and chocolate with a strong alcohol finish, which is good. I love this beer thanks J tiki TikiE (334), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Aug 14, 2008 Bottled: Thank you Collint! Pours an oil syrup black with a froathy tan head that lasts. Smells of deep alcohol and roast. The taste is powerfull with alcohol and roast with chocolate. Intense and extremely enjoyable! clasley (133), Arkansas, USA Aug 9, 2008 355 ml bottle. Lord have the mercy. Pours a vicious demonic opaque black with a whipped tan head. Richly complex nose with notes of roasted malt, coffee, licorice, pepper and an strong alcohol presence. Thick overwhelmingly rich body. Deep chocolate cherry mixed with plums, figs and finishing with a nice alcohol warming. Need to stick a bottle or two in the cellar and revisit in a few years.
