3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Butters (3013) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 3, 2012
Sampled with mm over some chocolate cake. Pours a nice dark brown with ring of tan head. The dry hopping doesn’t show up as much as I would have hoped, but the bottle could be on the old side. Good rich dark roasty character, but not to the point of a stout. Good bitter almost chalky toasted biscuit and hints of burnt caramel. Slight ’red’ hoppiness on the tail. Very solid porter.

First had this in Denver and really liked it, finally found it here. Pours a nearly black with a head that dissipates quickly, nice lacing. Nose is chocolate and some hops. Medium body, I really like this beer I think its a nice blend of styles.

Roasted malt, turning quickly hoppy. I should stop reviewing beers when I’m sick, ’cause I really can’t taste much else. Maybe some hints of grapefruit. Actually thought it was a black IPA on first drink. Think it seems to be more of a slightly malty IPA than a slightly hoppy porter. Good, nonetheless.

Tan head with a near black body. The aroma is dominated by floral hops. First taste is of floral hops fading quickly to an excellent balance of roasted malts with some coffee notes. Excellent smooth mouth feel, medium body, leaves a nice aftertaste of roasted malts on the tongue. An outstanding hoppy porter.

Out of the tap came a dark, very dark, brew with a dark ample head. Smells toasty with a hint of caramel and biscuit and a hint of a floral aroma. Mouth feel is pretty smooth. Flavors of roasted malt and hints of chocolate and coffee.

Tap. Very dark with creamy mocha head. Smells like a light roast coffee plus a root beer float. Nice roast flavor with a little perfume note then a fairly pronounced dry finish. A little creamy.

Pours very dark brown with a luscious tan head that has good retention. Quite of bit of lacing going on too. Smell both roasty and very fresh because of the hops. Taste like caramel, bitter sweet hops, a little coffee and exotic tropical fruit (that’s interesting!). A little cola sweetness in the after taste along with a very nice dry hop finish. I like this very much. It is different than other porters I have had, stylistically, and in a very good way.
