A traditional black porter, with a surprise twist - it's dry-hopped!! We've expanded the porter category a bit, adding a delightful, dry hop aroma to blend with the sweet caramel and chocolate characteristics of a Robust Porter.

A nice porter. Dark brown pour with some ruby notes, a fizzy off-brown-white head that dissipates quickly. Some roasted malts in the nose. Malts and bitter coffee on the tongue. A touch of sourness. A bit light and fizzy on the mouthfeel and the finish is overhopped for a porter IMO. But all-in-all a delicious beer.

Pours deep maroon with pretty much no head at all. No kidding on the dry hop. I was expecting something akin to the super pine black IPAs, this is much closer to a citrusy APA instead on the aroma. With dark malt of course. Sweet and fruity flavors, sort of like a fancy chocolate with filling. Solid mouthfeel, perhaps a bit on the thin side. It’s certainly an interesting concept and drink, I think I prefer porters with traditional English hops instead.

Transfer from BA review on 3-16-12 - Served in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a deep brown almost black color with a thin tan head. The small head faded fast giving a fair amount of lacing. Smell –Sweet candy like aromas are the biggest and boldest. There is bit of licorious in there, but the aromas are really much sweeter candy flavor, almost of root beer and chocolate hard candies. Some roasty aromas are present as well, although they are hidden and quite weak in comparison the sweeter aromas. Overall it is a rather unique, but enjoyable aroma. Taste – A sweeter taste of some chocolate and a little bit of coffee are present initially. There is a nice dark malty backbone with some hints of sweet vanilla more toward the middle of the taste. At the very end there is a surge of hoppy flavors with the sweeter flavors fading to more bitter flavors. The bitter hoppy flavors and bitter flavors of chocolate and coffee take the taste to the end. Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel is on the creamier side with a rather moderate to slightly below average carbonation level. For the style of the beer it was very fitting and made the beer very amendable to linger in the mouth for experiencing the whole flavor profile. Overall – A nice slightly sweeter porter with a nice aroma, mouthfeel and taste. Avery did a nice job here.

Pours very dark brown, half finger tan head, nice lacing. Aroma bready malt, toffee, chocolate, earthy piney hops. Taste slightly bitter pine, bittersweet chocolate, coffee grinds, bready and roast malt faint citrus on finish. Mouthfeel medium-full body, lower carbonation, balanced finish. Overall tasty, complex, slightly on the bitter side, close to black ipa, but not quite.

Pours a dark cola brown with a large, bumpy, tan head. Cherry, chocolate wine, and coffee aromas. Pretends to be a little heavier in the moith than it really is. Cherry up front, dark chocolate, then quick cough syrup. Lingering smokiness.
