A traditional black porter, with a surprise twist - it's dry-hopped!! We've expanded the porter category a bit, adding a delightful, dry hop aroma to blend with the sweet caramel and chocolate characteristics of a Robust Porter.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2006 Pours a burnt brown head to complement a lighter brownish body with some dark black tinges. Old, dry nutty smell with some alcohol pushing through. Begins with a medium to high acidic musty taste. Too much dry hopping acidity that is not supported by an ample enough body. I did not really care much for the slightly astringent mouth feel. There’s definitely something about this brewery I dont get along with.

Nice and hoppy, bout like 8-ball Stout or Old #38. Great hop, stout and fruit aroma. A little fruit in the flavor, nice bitter coffee balance. Good mouth and finish. OK label.

Excellent twist on a very traditional style. Beer pours dark brown, not quite black, with a reddish tinge. It develops a nice off white head that mostly diminshes. There is tons of lacing as you consume this porter. The aroma is different. Along with the expected coffee, roasted nuts there are hops. Are you supposed to be able do smell hops in a porter? Take a drink and the answer becomes a resounding YES! Along with delicious roasted malt, and coffee, there is a delightful hop kick to keep things interesting. The 6.7% ABV is competely hidden. One could easily throw down six of these and never notice the alcohol, not in the act of drinking, anyway. Very unique, very delicious and my new favorite porter.

After a weekend bender that included a tasting with bro, Joe, and fly as well as attending the UT/New Mexico State football contest, I found myself sitting at 899 beers rated. What should 900 be? My fridge is loaded with various beers acquired through trade, charity, and local stores....I settled on the Avery New World Porter. It finally is available in Austin so I grabbed it the last time I was in town. I reached into my cabinet and grabbed a NXNW pint glass....all of my nice glasses are dirty right now, but this will do, here goes.... Opaque black, with very slight red edges. Average sized head, a little more yellow than beige. Aroma of coffee beans with notes of alcohol. Initial sip was very refreshing...alcohol, hops, more coffee. Very crisp feel to it, a lingering coffee taste in the back of the mouth after each sip. As the beer slowly disappeared, the lace became one with the NXNW glass, never dissipating or falling. Warmth brought out more alcohol too. A top of the line porter....an excellent choice for #900! 100 more too go til the ultimate milestone.....I already am planning my victory speech. I want to thank Chad Bruns, Nathan Stal, and John Fowler for helping me get this far. There are too many secondary players to name, but fuck, I will try anyways: joet, fly, Doug, nuffield, per, jbrus, mabdoney, beerlimey, and austinpowers come to mind. Thanks to those of you I have left off, but thanks MOST of all to God, ya know....I mean, God put me here and stuff, ya know....thank the good lord, ya know. I am going to bed now.

A nice surprise! The smell is very good, the appearance is very dark and thick, and the taste is excellent! My favorite beer is Terminator Stout (McMiniman's Brewing), but this is a close second. Comparable to Sierra Nevada Porter, but I want to try the two side-by-side. Excellent choice.

Wonderful rich dark black color with a thick pillowy tan head that leaves a heavy lace as it subsides. Aroma is mostly roasted malts with a touch of western hops. Good thick body is filled with different malts, providing flavors of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Finishes dry and mildly hoppy. Very smooth and balanced, this is a good porter.

Black, with a thick brown head. Scent of citrus and chocolate. Has a nice blend of chocolate flavor with a roasted coffeeish taste. Had a bit too much grapefruit bitterness to start with, but it died down as it warmed. Good solid beer.

This dark, clear amber has a really smooth, full bitterness. It starts very hoppy, but then virtually dies in my mouth. In between is a really refreshing moment. I'd say this porter has an amazing palate, but falls a little short on flavor. Still...recommended.

A softer, mellower Stone 6th Anniv.? Clearly hoppy aroma - all pine barkt and coffeeish - taste components are similar, but with a little nuttiness - overall too much sourness and astringency going on in the finish - but still good.

Intriguing aroma, subtly blended. Very dark brownish red in color, faint head with wisps of lacing. Very nicely balanced and respectably complex flavor profile. Enjoyable finish too, semi-sweet chocolate and toffee with a blend of dry, roasty, slightly charry maltiness and a good quantity of spicy, piney, earthy hops. Lingering aftertaste. Full, satisfying mouthfeel. This is great stuff.
