COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditional black porter, with a surprise twist - it's dry-hopped!! We've expanded the porter category a bit, adding a delightful, dry hop aroma to blend with the sweet caramel and chocolate characteristics of a Robust Porter.

Rated 4/3/13. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a very dark ruby color. The head is a two finger mocha shade, settling to one finger after a while. As it fades, lots of webbed lacing remains on the glass. S: The tone this one takes in general is "hops first, porter second", with plenty of earthy, lemon, pine, and grapefruit notes emanating from the hop profile. As it warms up, a faint amount of roasted barley and chocolate appear. T: The hops here are front loaded on the palate, opening with flavors of lemon and pine. The midtaste and finish sees an increase of roasted, coffee-forward notes along side an upsurging ’ping’ of hop bitterness. Granted, I let this one sit in the fridge for 2 months before opening (and God only knows how fresh it was when I picked it up), but this is a bit more balanced than I was assuming. M: On the lighter side in terms of texture without being watery. The finish has a pleasant drying sensation, as well. Easy to drink. O: Even with a few months on it, it’s pretty damn good - or maybe it’s pretty damn good BECAUSE it has a few months on it? Not sure. Would buy again, though; one of the more successful robust porters I’ve had in a while.

Bottle. Pours black with white head. Aroma us bitter coffee, nothing else. Taste is the same, quite bitter. Coffee in the back end. Not my favorite.

33 cl. bottle split by 3 @ “Memorabel Tastingkje”. Thanks to tderoeck! Spare tanned head, hazy brown dark amber. Bit thin sweet bread, caramel, cereal, toffee, faint leather, plum, allspice going into a strong gravy / touch soy sauce finish, touch herbal but only light bitterness. Bit thin for the style, not bad at all but I have had a lot better beers in this style.

A decent porter, nothing too fancy. Pours a reddish-black, could be a bit thicker though. Smells of chocolate and coffee. Taste has some sweet chocolate upfront, with lots of coffee in the finish. Had on tap at Amsterdam Ale House in NYC.

Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a medium tan head. Aroma consists of heavier chocolate with a caramel compliment. Undertones are licorice, coffee, and some light vanilla and smokiness. The taste remains dominated by chocolate, although there are some serious coffee flavors in here as well. Its rather earthy as well. Mild caramel and some very light smoke are also found. Aftertaste is a long and lingering coffee. This one is medium in body. The texture is thicker, while being slightly oily and slick, while having softer carbonation. I can’t say this is out of this world, but its a solid porter.

Bottle. Chocolate fudge malt and light orange peel aroma. Black-brown with small head. Sweet chocolate malt and moderately bitter orange peel flavor. Interesting - pretty hoppy.

Pours an opaque black with a frothy khaki colored head and excellent lacing. Aroma has a nice amount of citrusy hops, chocolate, a little sweetness and slight roasted malt. Taste has a bold but smooth roasted malt flavor with some citrus and dark chocolate. A mild amount of char flavor and a rounded bitterness in the aftertaste. Finishes with some chocolate and lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is semi creamy with a medium/full body and moderate carbonation. Flavors are very well integrated and compliment each other nicely. I’m usually not a fan of hoppy porters but this one has everything in balance and it all melds perfectly.

Bottle: Very deep red-brown with a chunky light brown head. Chocolate, coffee, roast aroma. Taste is chocolate powder, singed coffee, piney hops. Tastes a great deal like a BIPA....nicely done, no matter what species it is.
