Bottle. Pours a nut-brown with amber highlights and a foamy tan head that reduces to chunky flotsam. Aromas of chocolate, beef broth, clay. Dominant flavour is chocolate, with nuances of coffee, aniseed, breadcrust, pine. Has a hearty briney character. Finish is resinous and bitter. Loved it.

Bottle. Head almost non-existant. Very dark red brown almost black body. Lowely smooth and pleasant coffee cocoa caramel aroma. Flavor mild and round cofrfee cocoa. Maybe the beer I had just before this was just too much more spicy and hoppy. Normally I would consider the Avery beers to be hoppy as well. This one seemed not to be. Low carbonation. Long sweet aftertaste.

Deep reddish brown colour. Berry fruit and burnt malt in the aroma. Roast malt again in the flavour, with chocolate hints. There’s some hop presence and a sour edge on the finish. Rather nice. Bottled, at the Brickskeller, with BuckNaked and Argo0.

pours ruby/black, thin golden/off white head
Aroma is malty and chocolate, light scent of dark fruits and sweet, light notes of hops.
Taste, light roasted malts, some coffee / toffee. Light addition of hops that adds for an original mouthfeel coupled with some dark fruits.
Finish has a thin touch of caramel that ends smooth with bits of cocoa powder and hops..

Draft sample at Cincy Beerfest. Pours a very dark brown color with a half-inch thick tan head that sticks around. Aroma of roasted malts, smoked wood, chocolate, caramel, earthy hops, and brown sugar. Flavor of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, smoked wood, earthy hops, caramel, and toast. Bitter and earthy for the style, with nice sweetness to balance and a dry finish. Medium-bodied, smooth, and robust. Very nice porter.

Poured XX dark with nice mocha colored head. Excellent lacing. Aroma is chocolate, burnt black patent, and a hint of hops. Flavor has superb balance (in my mind) of chocolate malts, burnt black patent malts and sweet caramel malt flavor. The sweet caramel is what makes it for me. The sweetness is just enough to play against the dryer chocolate and much dryer black patent malts. Hops are just noticeable. Left with a balanced aftertaste. Best Porter I’ve ever had.

Pours black color with a small off-white head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, dry chocolate, cocoa, licorice and mild hop notes. Flavor of licorice, dark roasted malts, tar notes and cocoa, some chocolate too. Very nice and dry porter.

Dark brown. Has a beige head, medium lasting, beige head. Aroma is sweet, burnt, caramel. Flavor is sweet too, coffee too. Syrup texture.
