An excellent porter. Chocolate and nutty with a hefty amount of bite that I assume comes from the hops.

11/15/13. 12oz bottle at Bad Habitz. Happy Birthday, rdixon77! This is one of those beers thatís always around but I had never rated it for some reason. Well, here goes, I guess. Dark pour, definitely more of a dark brown than a black, with a small khaki head. Ashy aroma, dry, mild chocolate. Ashy flavor, mild chocolate, chalky and dry. Not bad.

2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Very dark nearly black pour with light brown to red hue, thin spiderweb of offwhite head. Very light aroma of milk chocolate. Low carbonation, creamy mouthfeel, roasty finish. Great blend of porter flavors - bitter cocoa, flat syrupy cola, slightly acidic coffee, campfire smoke, hint of vanilla. Pretty good, pretty standard.

This is a black IPA. The hops are the main event. It does have some back notes of malt and toffee. Itís a bit bitter and bites the tongue.

Black. Large to medium fluffy, creamy beige head, lasting with good last. Aroma is sweet, roasty, chocolate, coffee, caramel, and some really nice hops backing. Flavor follows. Smooth, soft, light oily, some alcohol. Everything really comes together well. Medium body. Great sweet, roasty, hoppy balanced finish.

Nose is malty, bready, chocolatey. First fills the mouth with RICH taste of roasted malts. Strong notes of coffee & chocolate. One of the more delicious beers Iíve had. Pretty malty up front, but the hops come out at the finish. Very creamy and rich, amazing.

12 oz bottle You can count on Avery brewing an excellent product. This is another beer that is very special. It poured a deep black color with a small tan head and lacing. This is the porter for people who love porters. The aroma of roasted malts assault your sense of smell The taste has roasted malt with some hints of hops. There is also hints of chocolate, coffee and maybe some licorice. What a special porter. This is the standard that all should aspire. The finish leaves you with a dry bitter aftertaste.
