On tap at Bangers & Lace. Thin, a little spicy, somewhat malty, but not too much flavor here. Disappointing.

pours mahogany. thin white head quickly dissipates. aroma is got some basement funk going on. wet socks left on the floor. flavor is malt and spice. ive never been a big fan of winter ales so I know im being extra critical on this. huge fan of avery so I thought I would give this a chance. not doing it for me. aroma and flavors are not pleasant for me. this isn’t a drain pour by any stretch but I think im done with winter beers.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a nice mahogany color with a small tan head that fades to some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, nutty, dark fruit and bit of caramel in the background. Taste of roasted malt, nuts, bit of chocolate and caramel for a subtle sweetness. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Medium body, smooth and creamy. Nicely balanced. No trace of the 8.3% ABV. Enjoyable beer very fitting for the holidays,

a great winter warmer from avery. Nice malt sweetness up front with a load of complexity on the back end. A great big beer from one of our best breweries.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A: dark pecan ale with some orange hues. a finger of off-tan foam falls to a sheet of the same. Excellent clarity. Spot lace.
S: Sweet, slightly molasses malts are nice. No real hop presence here for me.
T: The alcohol is evident here initially (off-putting for me). Some pecan flavors. Some licorice (so faint).
M: thin with moderate carb and semi dry finish.
O: Decent beer. I like it as the third or fourth for the night, a little unrefined for the premier drink.

Bottle. Pours as describes- rich dark red. Aroma is hard to pick up- getting some yeast spiciness and dried cherry, but nothing too pronounced. The mouthfeel is creamy, with quad-like spice and ginger notes. Finish is a touch metallic. I didn’t wait to cellar this, but maybe that would add some additional depth. Finishes surprisingly thin, with a little bit of sticky pine needles lingering.
