COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our winter strong ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 2 years.

Pours mahagony brown with very little head. What's there is off-white and mainly a rim. Aroma is pure maltsville - toasted nuts, yeast and sweet roasted grains. Maybe a touch of prune. Taste is full of complex malt flavors with more nuts, toffee and booze closing to a slightly bitter linger. No spice, but very warming and seasonal for winter. Quite bright up front with some carbonation. Dry on the palate. A nice beer that will appeal to malt heads, though I must say I enjoyed it less as it warmed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hints of licorice and toffee. A nice, different twist for the holidays. Almost a brNdy-like taste note and relatively high ABV. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark, fruity, spicy, and strong enough to put some color in your cheeks. Great winter warmer with noted of cherry, ginger with a solid malt backbone.

Pours black with thin tan head. Rich, spicy aroma. Notes of plum and anise. Taste has notes of anise, rhubarb, blackberry but with a bitter backbone. Finish is warming.

This is great winter warmer. Spicy, but not overwhelming. Flavors of dark fruits, chocolate, and toffee.

Bottled September 7, 2013 (2.5 months old).
Appearance: The body is a beautiful garnet hue with fine sediment in suspension of the, otherwise, clear body. The head is short and short lived, settling into a thin/sparse coating with a foamy and uneven ring. The color here is worth a 5 alone though, it’s a brilliant deep garnet that looks almost majestic.
Aroma: The aroma is big with dark and slightly syrupy fruits, a hint of medicinal quality as well. I get an non-descript malt sweetness as well. The aroma could use some more strength, but it smells very nice.
Taste: The intro is of brown sugar and dark fruits, this leads to a mid-taste that is nutty and a bit dry, which continues through the finish with a slight medicinal cherry flavor. The finish is dry and lingers of medicinal cherry, it’s mild though.
Palate: Full-bodied with mild carbonation.
Overall: This is an enjoyable beer, but I find that it doesn’t have the complexity I expected from reading the description. I would have liked a strong toffee flavor along with what else is going on here, that would have made this nearly perfect.

Somewhat mild aroma with nuts, bread, and a little coffee. Flavor, however, is rich and chocolatey, with some toffee and a fig/date flavor. A little coffee-like bitterness and some alcohol in the finish. I tend to think Avery is a little overrated, but this is outstanding.

Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma is toasted coffee with berry. Taste is berry mixed with a subtle coffee bitterness. The finish is more raspberry and very clean. You can taste and feel the ABV from the start to the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
