COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our winter ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 3+ years.

When cold the thick caramel sweetness is in discord with the bitter hop but as it warms it starts to make more sense...but not a whole lot.

Like Fullers 1845, this is a seasonal. But like that beer, it is not a traditional spiced holiday ale. It is a well brewed strong ale. Aromas and flavors of toffee, brown sugar, and roasted malts.

This ale pours a beautiful dark, ruby red with about an inch and a half of foam on top! The aroma is a bit sweet, with hints of dried fruit and malt. The taste is also initially sweet, but that quickly changes to malt, spices, and hops. The finish is a little bitter, and that bitterness lingers throughout the warming, alcohol finish. I like this brew, as I do everything I’ve tried from Avery, but is isn’t anything really special, just another adequate winter ale.

Bottle. Dark amber with thin beige head. Aroma of nuts, riped fruits, chocolate and alcohol. Malt, chocolate and some hops in the flavour, but not bitter. Low carbonation compared to other US microbrews. Nice winterwarmer, but not outstanding.

Liquid pours a medium copper color, with a ruby tint. One finger head of light tan foam. Retention is fairly good and lacing is decent. Smells nice and malty. Smells of sweet vanilla caramels. Some hints of dark fruits come in and have just a tiny hint of hops with them. I’ve never had caramel covered cherries, but that is what they would taste like. Along with a nice sweet malt base. A touch of warming spiciness. Hops are in this, but the heavy malt profile is knocking them into the background. Hints of dark fruit. Feels very smooth and a touch creamy. Just about the body that I like a winter warmer to have. Very drinkable. Sweet, yet not overly so. Nice, slightly dry finish. Well masked ABV. Another solid brew from Avery. Quickly becoming my fave winter warmer. (Okay, it’s in a tie with Great Divide Hibernation.)

Nice looking medium brown hue with small head. Not fruity. The varied hops and malts do provide an interesting flavor though.
