When you open the bottle you can smell the aroma instantly, maybe walnuts roasted over a fire. has a very strong taste with a hint of seasonal flavoring. Has a slight aftertaste. Not a bad beer, just not my type.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Light brown, small compact head with some laces, carbonation is rather low. Sugar-candy, vanilla, rhum soaked fruit cake, caramel, ruby-red grapefruit and a bit spicy (nutmeg?). Well balanced, starts candy sweet then the hops deploy their presence with grace and elegance; never is it too sweet nor too bitter, yet the bitterness lasts for quite a long time. The body is round enough to be satisfying but the beer never feels heavy. Surprisingly refreshing, still credible as a digestive. Very enjoyable!

Pours a dark reddish brown with a short head. Spotty lacing. Smell is dry, alcoholic, and with stone fruit and apples. Taste is very dry, and a little sharp with alcohol. Hops are quite strong and bitter. Light mouthfeel.

Awesome nosefeel for a hophead that did’t expect it, great color with a nice yeasty head that ended up lacing nicely. Lots of malt + hops that balance beautifuliy. Hints of coffee and the ABV is hidden niclely. Worth saving a bottle or two for next year.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very mild aroma and flavor. Very slight hops and some sweet malt, maybe a little cocolate. Not much else, kind of watery but not bad.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a big 3 finger off white head. Body is a clear mahogany brown with lots of bubbles rising. Head retention is above average but the lacing is very good
Aroma is of sweet roasted caramel malt and some herbal hops. Alcohol is also slightly detected. A bit underwhelming compared to taste
First taste reminds me of an English barleywine. Tons of malt come through ranging from flavors of brown sugar to smoked malt and even some copper. Hops are also there, slightly bitter but mostly floral and earthy. Alcohol adds a touch of warmth to the finish.
Mouth feel is good. Carbonation is sufficient. Beer is medium bodied, about average consistency for a winter beer. Wish head contributed more to body, it died down towards last quarter of glass.
Drink ability was great. Rather session able strong ale. Very complex beer, almost flawless. Winter is my favorite season for beer and this one is one of the best seasonal beers around

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours rich mahogany with red highlights. Poured into a Trappist so barely any head formed but a white ring is left to collect around the rim. Aromas of toffee, roasted malts, over ripened fruits, a hint of coffee beans, mocha, and alcohol. Flavor is so malty and absolutely perfect for the season. Rich with toffee, molasses, more mocha, prunes, and roasted malt fading to a nutty malt backbone. Hops appear towards the finish with some hints of brown sugar and caramel malt. Alcohol is present throughout its entirety but never once attempts to overpower the rich malt characteristics of this brew. Medium-Full bodied with a slight twinge of carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking, but rather filling.

Bought this bottle off the bargain shelf at my locale homebrew shop, so don’t know what year it was brewed. It might have been passed its prime. I am surprised by the rating, the alcohol content and the claim of no spicing. Very skeptical that the spiciness was made by malt and hops alone.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Beer Engine ... Dark, almost mahogany, pour with an off white head. No spice, which is not always my idea of a Winter Ale, except for the Celebration Ale. Nutty and sweet, enjoyable but not something I would have more than one of.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A little hoppy, but malts balance out well. Poured well and had a light aroma that was pleasing. Caramel is definitely present; Not bad for an aftertaste; a little alcohol taste after half a botlle. Will drink again!
