4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle...very nice color maroon with a decent tannish head. Very dense aroma....oak....thick burnt flavors...mouth feel is nice as hints of chocolate and toffee abound. Can clearly tell the alcohol content....finish is very nice....Avery you have done another great job!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Chestnut colour with creamy, lasting head - drew a bit of lace as well.
Fairly agressive hops in both aroma and flavour, almost perfectly balanced by sweet, fruity malts and just a hint of alchohol.
Nice full body and quite sharp aftertaste - good to keep warm during the winter :)

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours clear, reddish-brown with a thin, frothy, white head with light lace. Nose of plum, raisin, cedar, malt, and a hint of barnyard and sour cherry. Thin mouthfeel. Taste of bitter coffee, vanilla bean, toffee, malt, booze and smoke. This is a medium hot brew in that the alcohol is present on the finish. Enjoyable for the style. I might enjoy more if cellared for a year.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A very nutty smell and taste with a heavy aftertaste. The color is a nice light mahogany and the pour is nice and clean with a small head. A good holiday brew which goes perfect with a cold winter night!

First Avery offering that I tasted this past spring..found 6 pk at small bottle shop in queens..poured into pint glass..nice chestnut color..2 finger head with a little lace..clears quickly..great fruity, nutty aroma..and hits the tongue really well..stays in the palate but not in an overbearing way..an excellent winter ale that made me go and try a number of other Avery quaffs..highly recommended.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A perfect winter ale brewed by Avery. I get this one every year, and for good reason... it’s one of the better winter seasonals that you can find. Pours a nice full bodied brown hue with ruby highlights. Bakers chocolate, caramel, spices flavors come through, as well as some nutty flavors. This one has a nice bit of hops that even out the malt well. This beer is nice and sticky, a little chewy, too. This one is definitely worth picking up in the season.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great chocolate aroma. The flavor continues along with a slight fruit flavor from the aroma hops. Good but could be a little smoother.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Beer poors deep amber with a ring of head that stays throughout the beer. Aroma is of Alchol, piney, citrus, and malty. Flavor is sweet, malty, and balanced by a mild bitterness. Mouthfeel is excellent for style. Not too sticky, just right for desiring more. Overall the beer is an excellent winter warmer, look forward to more.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hands-down the smoothest version of a strong ale that I have tasted to this day. I was floored when I noticed the 8% abv. and couldn't believe the well-crafted balance which makes this winter ale so drinkable. The usual hoppiness from hop-happy Avery is evident, but they manage to tame it enough where the brew maintains a good balance from start to finish. Good stuff and I am looking forward to next years batch (b/c I foolishly consumed my stash from this year). Cheers!

Draft 4 oz. Beer Flight at Old Chicago in Peoria, IL. Dark amber color. Roasty chocolate comes out as it warms. You can really taste the alcohol here.
