Big thanks to npdemse for this. Pours a wonderful deep shade of ruby with a big, light tan head. Aroma of malt, nutmeg, slight port, toffee. Great complex taste that presented some nuts, toffee, chocolate, cinnamon with a semi-dry finish. Firm palate with a nice balance. This one is a winner.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ughsmash (6672) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 8, 2005
Bottled. Poured a clear, deep ruby/orange with a very nice tall beige head (receded after a minute, but left nice intricate lacing). Full aroma of English bittering hops, caramel, hazlenut, and some wintery spiciness. There was a lot of spicy maltage in the flavor... working well with the English hops and caramel. Smooth across the tongue with bitterness around the edges. Long, spicy, and warming finish. This is a great fireside treat!

Tasted on tap at the brewery in Boulder. Dark red/orange appearance with a light head. Sweet alcoholic aroma. Pretty intense English Strong Ale flavor at first. Somewhat malty body that’s slick in mouthfeel like an Old Ale or a Barleywine. Definitely alcoholic flavor.

Pours brown with a decent off white/tan head. Smells of earth, some tea, dark fruit. Tastes of spice, caramel, raisins, boozy, some tea. Mouthfeel is full bodied. Finish yields some alcohol that interferes with an otherwise enjoyable experience.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dogbrick (6065) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 5, 2002
Found at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, OH. Avery’s brews have all been pretty good so far and this is no exception. This is a pretty good seasonal ale to boot. Pours a pretty amber color with a medium thin beige head. Spicey aroma of connamon and hops. The flavor was a mixture of malts, brown sugar, cinnamon etc and was surprisingly rich. Good stuff!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rastacouere (6045) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 16, 2005
Deep ruby-brown colored, clear, apparently well filtered. Mostly lasting beige head. Strong malty nose focuses on toffeeish sweetness and tree fruits + bready undertones. Not very original and surprisingly little complexity, but nothing to disturb global balance, well contained alcohol and sweetness levels. It becomes almost roasty in the finish, developping landscapes of nutty, floral and leafy moderated bitterness. I would have adored this in my first 3-400 beers, but there is plenty of similar stuff with deeper flavor ranges. Medium bodied, watery in texture, soft carbonation.
