COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our winter ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 3+ years.

From the Bottle at TAG Restaurant, Denver 22/09/2009 Fruit and malt aroma. Amber coloured strong in alcohol and hoppy with a little roast flavour in a crisp and bitter warming chocolate malt finish.

Found at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, OH. Avery’s brews have all been pretty good so far and this is no exception. This is a pretty good seasonal ale to boot. Pours a pretty amber color with a medium thin beige head. Spicey aroma of connamon and hops. The flavor was a mixture of malts, brown sugar, cinnamon etc and was surprisingly rich. Good stuff!

Another gift from the bartender at Barcade… I love this place. Dark amber beer with a thick off-white head. Aroma is a bit salty and herbal with intense oaky character throughout. Herbal dill-like character that reminds me of the barrel-aged Leviathan. Flavour shows saltiness and sweet caramelly malt. Strong alcoholic flavour and a bit of tartness on the back. A bit of vanilla and caramel along with some herbal hoppiness. Strong and sweet but not terribly malty. Not really a fan.

On tap. This one is rich and creamy with a HUGE wallop of dark fruits that just punches you int he face. This is along with some mild toasty bitterness and some thick caramel and sugary flavors.

UPDATED: OCT 26, 2007 2003 - Dark red with a thick coated head. Smells is a very fresh and robust cherry and wood and alcohol. Creamy and thick with a milk-like texture and some nice dark cherry and charred wood flavors. Really an excellent winter beer with some bourbon flavors coming through towards the end.

12 oz. bottle, pours dark amber. Aroma of English malts and sweet dried fruits. The flavour reveals much more complexity, with the aforementioned English malts and sweet dried fruits, along with prominent wood and hazelnut. A little cloying in sweetness, but this is a great winter warmer.

My Bottom Line:
Toasted, caramelized malt flavors are inherently spiced by a rye-like character, while potent wooden hops contribute as much flavor as bitterness in this complex, compelling sipper.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the cloudy mahogany.
-The spicy character seems to come from grain bill and hops. It even develops a marzipan-like personality at times.
-Fruit cake allusions also appear.
-The rich body is rounded out by alcohol warmth.
-The flavor profile is harmonious throughout.
-The finish is balanced.

Bottle.

Big thanks to npdemse for this. Pours a wonderful deep shade of ruby with a big, light tan head. Aroma of malt, nutmeg, slight port, toffee. Great complex taste that presented some nuts, toffee, chocolate, cinnamon with a semi-dry finish. Firm palate with a nice balance. This one is a winner.

On tap at the Meddlesome Moth, Dallas. It pours a deep ruby-brown colour with small foamy beige head. The nose is fairly subtle - red berries, nuts and caramel. The taste is date, raisin, plum, leather, oak, liquorice, nuts, varnish, a little honey and some lemon sherbet with an astringent-bitter finish. The overall taste is quite dry and bit too savoury, making it quite difficult to finish.

2009-04-10. Very dark brown body with a nice foamy tan head that fades. (3+) Sweet fruit aroma, mild alcoholic undertones, touch of spice? (7+) Flavour is similar, light spice, malt core is a bit mild, touch of oxidation? Light note of raisins or dark fruit in the finish. Smooth medium bodied palate. Decent. Bottle shared by GregClow
