alobar (676), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 30, 2006 Sweet beer!
Dark mahogony body with no head. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, and some hops. Tastes of roasted malts, some nuts, fruit, and a light touch of hops and alcohol. Great beer!
Blaketj80 (20), Oklahoma, USA Dec 3, 2008 Very nice winter beer. Spicy with a hop note at the end which makes for a great finish. For the most part malty, but kudos to the avery for their malt blend that makes this very enjoyable. HonkeyBra (517), Lemont, Illinois, USA Dec 3, 2008 Pours a deep dark brown with a big, thick, tan head. The head is huge and blossoms out of the glass. Aroma is hoppy and sweet. Flavor is very complex. Sweet malts, dark fruits, Rum-soaked fruits, a bit of hops. Rich, creamy mouthfeel with a good amount of carbonation. I picked this up in a mix-6 because I didnt want a full 6-pack of this, but having tried it I realize how wrong I was. gpekar (149), Maryland, USA Nov 30, 2008 Poured a cola color with orange highlights. The head was tall, creamy and tan in color. There was nice lacing. The aroma was mild. A bit of sweetness, a hint of chocolate and other subtle fragrances. There was a strong flavor of anise initially and a good bit of chocolate too. The taste built to a mild bitterness with a slight sweetness underneath. There was a good complex flavor to this beer. Very enjoyable!!!! scoth (44), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear, deep brown, with a thin biege head, some lacing. Big sweet aroma of raisins, figs, molasses, and pine. Thick, velvety body. Lots of sweet malt, fruity and toffee flavors, and a dry, slightly bitter edge to the finish. Has a nice, balanced English character, but a more American hop sensibility. milljam (167), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Nov 29, 2008 Probably one of the better "non-spiced" winter beers I’ve had. Solid malt flavor....some nuttiness and under-tones of coffee and toffee. Aroma mainly malty...not much beyond that. Alcohol is decent...can’t really taste it.
