COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our winter strong ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 2 years.

12oz brown bottle. Pours a beautiful rich dark mahogany. Huge, thick, three finger hazelnut colored head which sticks around forever and settles to a thick one finger head. Very sticky lacing. Aroma is a homerun. Chocolate desserts, nutmeg, cinnamon, chicory, dates and more chocolate. Flavor is a huge letdown. The bitterness is way over present and unwelcoming. It smells like it will be sweet and decadent but the flavors are unbalanced, the initial flavors and finish are doing way different things. Not enjoyable on multiple levels. Mouth feel is fine but the flavor, bitterness and finish kill it. Disappointing especially because the appearance and aroma were stellar. I will have to give it another chance sometime because the appearance and aroma alone is worth it.

Dark copper pour, low head, and medium lacing. Fruity piny aroma. Fizzy with bitter dark fruits. Some caramel with a thick phlegmy mouth. Not bad, a spicy winter.

Bottle without date. Nondescript smoky brown, amll cream head. Sweet molasses/caramel/brown sugar smellsÖ hints vaguely at cherry/blueberry, banana, peat. Tastes thick and chocolatey, cola, sappy malt, and a broad bitter spinachy backbite. Meaty palate. Overall very "brown", woody, and just plain boring.

Served in a Bruery tulip. The color is a moderate brown with a crimson hue. Pours with a single-finger off-white head as well as some light lacing and a bit of bubbly lacing around the edges of the glass. The nose brings some light caramel, toffee, and citrus plus a bit of spicing. The flavor brings some mild hops with a bit of earth and citrus as well as some caramel. There some slight spicing and a bit of booze in there as well. The body is nice with a bit of booze and is a bit thinner than expected, but has a good amount of carbonation to carry the flavors. Drinkability is decent. This is a well-made brew, but just doesnít really stand out in any direction. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-28-2010

Bottle poured a clear dark brown hue w/ a small fully diminishing head and some lacing. Moderate to big roasted malt aroma. Initial flavor is light sweet w/ a moderate bitter finish. Tastes are medium roasted malt, vanilla, rum, and orange citrus. Full bodied and boozy finish.

2011 Edition A: dark pecan ale with some orange hues. a finger of off-tan foam falls to a sheet of the same. Excellent clarity. Spot lace. S: Sweet, slightly molasses malts are nice. No real hop presence here for me. T: The alcohol is evident here initially (off-putting for me). Some pecan flavors. Some licorice (so faint). M: thin with moderate carb and semi dry finish. O: Decent beer. I like it as the third or fourth for the night, a little unrefined for the premier drink. Serving type: bottle 11-21-2011

on tap-pours a minimal white head. Color is deep amber. Aroma is grain. Taste is grain, sweet, coffee/chocolate/toasty. An occasional beer for me. Again, this is a Big Beer with that complex, thick taste.

12oz. bottle. Deep brown with yellow and orange highlights. Small light tan head. Woody and earthen malt aroma, grassy hop accents. Muddled clash of spicy malt flavors, biscuit, raisin, bitter nutshell, and burnt toffee. Residual bitterness and hop herbal grassiness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly sticky.

In short: A good caramel/toffee malt backbone but overly spicy. Quickly gets sickening.
How: Bottle, 3+ months old. From dmac621, thanks Dave.
The look: Dark ruby body with a medium beige head leaving very good lacing
In long: Rich malted body with caramel and toffee. But the spices man, they just went overboard with the spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, basil and whole bunch more. Just too much of it. It took over everything. Felt as if my bottle was filled with the end of a keg with all the spices deposit. Bad bottle? I donít know but one thing for sure this bottle didnít suit me at all. Not enough shoulder room and my feet were all squeezed.
