COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our winter ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 3+ years.

Well. The shelf tag @ Archer would have me believe that this is an 07 batch of Jubilation. Not quite sure. Wish I would have saved it for a night my palate was a little cleaner, but here goes. [A] Caramel. Chocolate. Toffee. Fig. Raisin. Dark fruit. Ripe. Almost wine ish. Grape or cranberry juice quality. English barleywine-esque. No hops really present, though a nice nose. Likeable in my book. [A] Shotgun blast and huge huge chunky bubbly brown head. Caramel brown to light. Active. Will not even allow a pour. Don’t think this is 07. Dark ruddy brown liquid. [F] Initially dark fruit. Caramel and a very large chocolate note. Mostly fruity. Nice intricacy and balance. Licorice. Maltiness. [P] Very watery. No hops. Flat mouth. With more dark fruit and chocolate. Reminiscent of certain barleywines and foreign stouts. Not especially a bad thing for this ale. But it doesn’t help. [O] I somewhat liked this after some IPA. Lord only knows if its 07. Not sure if I would buy a 6er either way. One was more than enough. Avery is one of my favorite brewers, and this receives a fair score, but I cannot totally agree with it tonight.

Old rating. Pretty mahogany color. Big malty, nutty flavor. Not much spice at all. A lefty sweetness with a bitter finish. All around nice unspiced winter offering.

Tap. A simple malty winter warmer with a smooth mouth feel. Nothing really special. Actually the difference maker for me is actually what isn’t there. I appreciated the absence of the typical winter warmer spices. Drinkable but doesn’t leave a lasting impression, good or bad.

Poured into pint glass from bottle, dark mahogany with toffee nose and light carbonation. Medium bodied, malty with caramel finish. Great to have a winter ale not doctored up with spices.

12oz bottle poured into an English pint. Old Jubilation pours a deep mahogany to burgundy with a fairly thin creamy tan brown head that lasts a solid 30 seconds. The aroma is caramel, molasses and a bit nutty. The flavor is milk, caramel, molasses, licorice, hazelnut, spices and a bit smokey. Overall this is a solid brew.

Pours dark brown with a foamy thick head. Aromas of toffee, caramel, and sweet malts. Tastes sweet and nutty with toffee, and caramel. Hops are well hidden beneath the malts. Nice winter ale in the English strong ale style. High alcohol content and the big malt profile makes this one a sipper.

Look: pours a dark Amber. Tan head. Very clear. Smell: hops. Sweet caramel. Pine. Muted Citrus fruit. Taste: heavy roasted malt. Slight bitterness on the back. Pine and grass. Feel; medium carbonation. Taste more like a porter but too dry for that. Overall: not what I was expecting with ale in the label. First drank: home 1/5/15 Vintage: 2014
