COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This big, roasty stout takes flavor to the extreme. We arenít afraid to use plenty of rich roasted barley and a mountain of hops to give this full-bodied stout that little extra something youíve been looking for in a beer.

Iím pleasantly surprised by this stout. Itís hard to be surprised, or impressed, by what seems to be a run-of-the-mill stout nowadays. Thereís nothing really special about it, and itís more or less a traditional American stout. What makes this shine so brightly is its overall perfectly balanced nature and how pleasant it is to drink. Itís jet-black in color with a light-medium brown colored head. The only sign of carbonation is thanks to the bubbles that appear unexpectedly at the surface of the beer, much like youíd imagine from a gurgling tar pit. Although it does settle down after a short while, the aroma still continues to offer some great signs of life, with a heavy, but sweetly, roasted malt nose that reminds me a little of charred wood or a dirty old barbecue pit. With as much roast as is in this, itís really not bitter on the nose at all, and the flavor is just as pleasant. Inhaling this as you drink really enhances the flavor. There is a nice, cozy sweetness that compliments the ale, but it doesnít dominate the flavor at all. The roasted characteristics are full and almost complex. Itís not just some plain old roast-forward stout. Itís well-planned, deep, and supple. The full body almost reminds me of what youíd expect from an oatmeal stout, and I almost begin to expect the same of the flavor, but a unique, distinctive spiciness begins to emanate from the beer that must be a result of the brewerís self-proclaimed heavy use of hops. Whatever the recipe, itís great. Something about the finish reminds me of crab or crawfish seasoning - and iíf Iím just completely off my palate with that then at least take those words as a suggestion to try the beer with bottom-crawling seafood. Regardless of the edible accompaniment, itís a great stout, full, awesomely flavored, and well balanced. Its roast character is simple, but complex, and yields no roast bitterness. The beer is thick, solid, and supple. I highly recommend this.

At cellar temp. and into a snifter. All in it is an opaque, brown tinged black with a fine bead and topped off by a compact, tannish crown. Thickly, robust nose dominated by fresh baked, chocolate biscuit, tar and leather and rich molasses with just a little burnt lumber and roasted coffee bean. Quite bold, bitter, malty and thick on the palate. Much drier than expected with a heavily roasted malt back-drop. Big coffee and mocha notes with a woody, burnt malt bitterness and extra long finish. A touch of molasses roughness late. Smooth, silky, almost chalky mouthfeel. Well rounded, whoo! A charming beer. So much flavour and aroma, nicely balanced and very well made. Havenít had a stout this good in a long time. Quaffable stuff!! (12fl.Oz, no date stamp, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Pours a translucent brownish black from the bottle with dissipating tan head. Aroma of chocolate and slight roast, hint of wet paper. Taste follows, slightly bitter dark chocolate notes on the tail end. Smooth and easy to drink for a stout, not bad but nothing special.

Bottle from Village Wine and Spirits. Serious choco roasty malt, some coffee maybe. Black, rocky tan head. Medium chocolate, roast malt, light hopping. Thin-medium body. Tasty, but a bit thin and one dimensional.

Pours a rich black color with almost no head, smells of loads of malts and chocolate and taste much the same with some hop bitterness to back up the sweetness of the flavor.

Helt ok men ganska ordinärt. Svart som natten och en skön lakrits med lätt humle i avslutningen.

This stout was actually very nice with large hints of unsweetened chocolate and coffee notes , the color was dark brown and was very easy to drink and enjoy. Would I drink it again ? Yes.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a very dark ruby color. The head is about one finger high, with a mocha shade. Retention is just acceptable, but thereís nice lacing left behind. S: Smells like a milk stout. That is, itís heavy in both lactose and chocolate notes, with some undertones of vanilla and coffee. There isnít as much roasted backing as Iíd like. All in all, this smells like it will be rock-solid. T: Okay, I didnít notice all these hops on the nose. While it opens with a touch of lactose sweetness, the finish is surprisingly hoppy. Not bitter, just clean and dry-feeling with a hint of pine flavor. Itís really simple, but pretty good otherwise. M: It starts off clean and dry like I said, with a sweet linger in the middle of the palate accumulating slightly. As such, itís not quite as drinkable as it could be. Both body and carbonation are about medium, maybe slightly erring to medium-high. O: Nice one here. Iíd love to try it a bit fresher so the hops will be more defined. Right now, however, itís solid but unexceptional. Iím on the fence about buying this one again.

Fairly dark color with a small amount of khaki head that marbles on surface. Smells of chocolate, tobacco, roasted coffee, cocoa. Thin mouthfeel with a strong earthy tobacco flavors along with roasted coffee in the middle and ends with some chocolate cocoa sweetness. Lot of burned roasted flavors throughout as well. Cigarette ash like flavors come to mind and are a bit much. Wish it was thicker in the mouth, and the roasted ash flavors are a little too strong otherwise not a bad stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Black with a cm of tan head. Aroma of roasted barley, chicory, chocolate. Silky texture, moderate carbonation. Quite rich mocha, heavy roasted barley, a bit weedy, firm bitterness that really shines through at the end. Solid.
