Fruit and hop aromas. Black strong in alcohol and smooth on the palate with a little dryness and chocolate flavour in a crisp and bitter roast finish. arminjewell (102), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2009 Poured dark, thick with lasting head. Nose full of chocolate and malt with a hint of hops, and tasted exactly as such. A little weak as far as stouts go, but overall a good effort and a very drinkable stout! matthewjk (57), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

My ratings for this style tend to lean on the high side of the average and this stout is no exception. Fantastic aroma is a great preview for the bold, but well-balanced chocolatey flavor. Really like the roasted and coffee-like flavors. potbeercollege (311), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 4, 2009 Draught from Avery Taproom. Thick black with thin tan head. A lot less coffee than OUT OF SIGHT by Avery. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with light fruitiness and heavy hops for stout. Flavor is dark chocolate with still very coffee ending. Also burnt roasted with initial sweetness that is light and alcoholic. Light citrus bite at end. gnoff (3560), Göteborg, Sweden

On October 29, 2009 Clear dark brown color, big lasting tan head. Light roasted, coffee scent. Sweet, roasted, dry, coffee taste. Dry coffee aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium high bitterness. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 29, 2009 Aroma is big on roasted chocolate malt. Very sweet with some coffee and chocolate syrup too. No hops are detected, this beer smells like desert, a light version of Southern Tier’s Choklat.
Pours a nice 3 finger chocolate head. Body is pitch black. Lacing is above average and head retention is good
Flavor is all about the malt. Tons of roasted malt come through at first. It’s pretty smoky, almost burnt. There is some sweetness of chocolate and it ends with some bitter coffee and hops.
Mouth feel is pretty light but not watery like Guinness. Beer is well carbonated but not overly. A decent amount of head is present but I think the more the better.
Overall this is a pretty good, extremely sessionable beer. Pretty light bodied but tons of flavor is packed into it. This is pretty similar to Odells Cutthroat Porter so if you like that one you’re gonna love this beer

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 23, 2009 Nose is roasted coffee, chocolate. Very nice. The appearance is black, NO light passing through, tan head. The flavor is a nice mix of roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. The finish is roasty, bitter dark chocolate, nice. I usually don’t care for dry stouts, but this one is a winner. Dry, but not devoid of sweetness. Excellent. williamherbert (466), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 17, 2009 Pitch black with not a speck of light passing through. Short-lived cardboard brown head. Nice swath of light brown lace.
Smell is a nice lightly burnt malt. Nutty porterish aroma with a hint of coffee. Smoky with a hint of sweetness. Dry and mild too; hints of pub ale. Very very good.
Burst of bittersweet coffee and toasted malt. Not incredibly bitter. Dry sweet pub malt balances the harshness. Perfectly balanced.
A bit dry, but smooth. Tiny bite on the way down. Does leave a milky film. It’s a delicious, balanced brew. Dry, bitter and biscuity. Quote good.
