nefarious (202), Clarkston, Michigan, USA Jun 4, 2008 Black pour...surprise-surprise. Loicorice aroma and slight dark fruits.....and a trace of something sweet(coulda swore it was peanutbutter) Upon second smell I decided I was crazy but a good aroma. Very thin mouthfeel. But a nice flavor of malt, coffee and bitter chocolate. not bad over all. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 3, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Tasty American stout whose citrus barely avoids the clash with the heavy roast
I like:
Starts very sweet, but switches back to dryness rapidly. Not as aggressively bitter in the finish as I anticipated. Pleasant toasty, nutty notes complement the roast. Evolving chocolate notions.
I dislike:
Lots of roastiness in here, the hops’ acidity do not fit that too much. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Jun 2, 2008 Dark brown colour. Thin head. Hints of roasted malts in the nose. A quite coffeeish and exspressolike taste. Strong hops in the eftertaste. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada May 26, 2008 Bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry. Thanks! Pours dark, dark brown with a frothy head of mocha foam. Nice lace left behind. The nose is or roasty malts and coffee beans, mint, and fresh cut grass with loads of hops and dark chocolate, with hints of vanilla extract. Tastes very green for a stout, with loads of minty hops and freshly brewed black coffee, leading to a woody dark chocolate and vanilla. Finishes quite bitter and creamy ,with aftertastes of dark rum. This looked and tasted like an impy, but is only 5.1%, wow. Excellent. Thanks a lot for this gem Harry! WallyWalrus (205), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 22, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a dark ruby-twinged brown with a thin mocha-colored head. Aroma is sweet and dry, with scents of roasted malt, caramel, coffee, syrupy hops, and wood. Taste is creamy and relatively full, with an initial taste of roasted malt, milk chocolate, and coffee giving way to a dry, pleasantly bitter finish of syrupy hops. The sort of stout I’d be willing to spend an evening with. Elizavyeta (110), Minnesota, USA May 22, 2008 Cola-like in appearance with a distinctive and frothy dark tan head. Aromas of peat, mocha, and chocolate dominate although the overall strength of the aroma is minimal.
The flavor itself is somewhat lighter than the typical stout - while the usual coffee and slightly bitter notes are present, they fade quickly into a smooth and pleasant finish.
Would perhaps be a nice pair to a dessert containing dark chocolate, or even an older gouda. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA May 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours jet black with a thin tan head. A good amount of malt and hops with no real etoh present i slammed this bottle as it was nothing special. mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland May 11, 2008 (Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-04-12) Almost black. Brownish head. Hops and roasted malts in nose. Full-bodied. Hops, roasted malts and coffee in taste.
