Radek Kliber (3932), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2008 Bottle 355 ml
Appearance: Mahogany like with dark red copper at edge , thick mocha soft crown placed above. Nose : Soft, aromatic parfumy like whiff of high alpha west coast, acidic dark brown oily malt. Rich , gentle tar like roast.8+ Flavor/Palate : Medium bodied , soft slightly oily texture. Bitter woody with black devils tar pit. Green potent hopheads drown in its thickness leaving soft warmth of substance. Clever outcome this has become. This beer is better than it intended to be. Light, swift with dark twist.
esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Apr 12, 2008 Thick reddish-brown with tan medium diminishing head. Heavy roasted malts and some coffee and a touch of yeast in the aroma. Taste of deep roasted malt, maybe a little to deeply roasted since they taste a bit burnt. Semi thin and has a malty bitter finish from those burnt malts Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Apr 5, 2008 pours dark black with a thick tan head. Has a nice roasted aroma with a little bit of a chocolate presence. Taste is nice, roasted and chocolate flavors shine through. Outstanding. Pours opaque black with limited brown foamy head that is mostly diminishing. Aroma of hops and malt. Initial flavor is dominated by hop bitterness with some sweet malt. Flavor ends with the hops, where they become more floral than straight bitter. Aftertaste is moderately lasting. Limited lacing, light carbonation, medium body, and limited alcohol noted. Drinkability is very high, liked the dry stout style and thought it was impressive for an "average" tier beer. Slipstream (735), USA Mar 28, 2008 12 ounce bottle, drunk straight from the refrigerator - the label suggest keeping it refrigerated. The label also has an interesting drawing on it - a skier caut in an avalanche, or something like that. Black pour with a light head and thick lacing. Spritely aroma of floral hops. The flavor is dark chocolate and smokey malt and grains. Here is a nicely balanced stout - not too bitter or too sweet, with the right amount of hops. It reminded me of Guinness Cold on tap (which I had in the U.K.), only better. The label says "out of bounds - yeah, it is!", but this is well within the boundaries of a very nice stout - very drinkable, but still a serious brew. daknole (2810), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 24, 2008 Bottle, thanks to Strykzone. Poured a black color with a light brown head that faded quickly with some lacing left behind. Smells of coffee and hops. Flavor is a bit hoppier than I usually like in my stouts, but it is a well crafted beer. grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Mar 24, 2008 Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Feels a little thin, decent flavor. Not really my type of beer.
