Nice roasted malt aroma. Solid stout, good crisp roasted malt flavor w/a bit of a smoked overtone to it. More coffee flavor than chocolate. Mouthfeel was a little thin; had a little more carbination than most Stouts. Long dry finish, kind of bitter. keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2007 I had a 12 oz bottle of Avery’s Out of Bounds Stout some time within the last two years. For some unknown reason, I have omitted to rate it until now. I distinctly remember how aromatic it was when I first opened the bottle. Vibrant, rich roasted/smoky notes with a hint of sweetness emerged full force from the bottle. The hue was what I’d expect of a stout: slightly transparent dark brown/black with a tan head. This stout has a very full body. The mouthfeel is creamy and slightly flat with a bitter finish. More hops than I expected, but still very malty as befitting of a good dry stout. Dark brown color, very small tan head. Toasted coffee and chocolate in the nose. Starts with hard mouthfeel and then turns a bit watery. Later it grows to dry, even ashy mouthfeel. Roasted malty and coffee flavors. Long bitterish aftertaste. Thure (143), Aalborg, Denmark

Eventually settled into the shape of, oh, the Sierra mountains. The biggest, most mountainous, rocky head I’ve ever seen. Huge lacing in the glass. In fact, the emptied glass was practically covered. Very dry, roasty, chalky aroma, with hops in the background. Flavour is yet more roastiness, with burnt malt, some chocolate and molasses. Finishes quite hoppy and distinctly dry. Nice long aftertaste, where a lot of new roastiness comes out. Very enjoyable, and perfect for this St. Patrick’s Day.
