Commercial Description:
This big, roasty stout takes flavor to the extreme. We aren't afraid to use plenty of rich roasted barley and a mountain of hops to give this full-bodied stout that little extra something you've been looking for in a beer.

I had a 12 oz bottle of Avery’s Out of Bounds Stout some time within the last two years. For some unknown reason, I have omitted to rate it until now. I distinctly remember how aromatic it was when I first opened the bottle. Vibrant, rich roasted/smoky notes with a hint of sweetness emerged full force from the bottle. The hue was what I’d expect of a stout: slightly transparent dark brown/black with a tan head. This stout has a very full body. The mouthfeel is creamy and slightly flat with a bitter finish. More hops than I expected, but still very malty as befitting of a good dry stout.

Bottled
Dark brown color, very small tan head. Toasted coffee and chocolate in the nose. Starts with hard mouthfeel and then turns a bit watery. Later it grows to dry, even ashy mouthfeel. Roasted malty and coffee flavors. Long bitterish aftertaste.

The color was dark chocolate. The head was creamy fizzy and light beige. The aroma was roasty, malty, day-old coffee, and vanilla. The flavor was very rich roast, coffee, bitter, dry, and pepper. The palate was smooth and thin bodied. The finish was roasty, bitter, and warm.

Gigantic, loose head over jetblack beer. Heavy on the coffee and the burned malt with a distinct hoppiness. A little sour... Quite nice...

Dark, black. Has a beige, lasting head. Aroma is clearly burnt, coffee, chocolade. Bitter finish.

12oz. bottle - pours completely black, even when held against a light, with an absolutely massive mocha head. Eventually settled into the shape of, oh, the Sierra mountains. The biggest, most mountainous, rocky head I’ve ever seen. Huge lacing in the glass. In fact, the emptied glass was practically covered. Very dry, roasty, chalky aroma, with hops in the background. Flavour is yet more roastiness, with burnt malt, some chocolate and molasses. Finishes quite hoppy and distinctly dry. Nice long aftertaste, where a lot of new roastiness comes out. Very enjoyable, and perfect for this St. Patrick’s Day.

12 oz bottle - pours black, with the biggest head I’ve seen on any beer. Ever. Seriously huge. It took me about 10 minutes to get this all into the glass because every time I put a bit more in, the thing exploded. Aroma very roasty - notes of coffee, toffee, toasted malt, and a good deal of hops. Very thick and creamy in the mouth, but bitter and chocolatey as well, with espresso flavours alongside burnt black malt and more hops. Really dry, almost chalky - the best dry stout I’ve had - tastes much more like an imperial, but without the big alcohol. Great stuff.
