| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2007 Bottled. Beer is very dark brown,nearly opaque, head is large, frothy, light brown. Diminishes mostly into a cling of lace, a ring around the glass and a mist.

The aroma is malty with a moderate note of smokey roasted grain, chocolate, dark coffee; Hoppy with moderate notes of resin/pine; Yeasty with light notes of dough, basement, trace of dirty dish rag; Nice, chewy and warm.

The flavor is moderately bitter, moderately sweet, lightly acidic with a long, lightly bitter, lightly sweet, lightly acidic finish.

The body is full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 22, 2007 The 12 ounce bottle poured an almost black beverage with a smooth creamy average sized tan head that was mostly lasting and left great lacing on the glass. The aroma was big. There were prominent notes of roasted barley and cherries with more subtle hints of leather, grass and molasses. The body was medium with a slightly sharp carbonation and a somewhat watery texture. The flavor starts lightly bitter and the bitterness grows through the middle to a moderate level and then stays there through the medium finish. beermouth (434), Langeskov, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2007 Black, with slight brown edge and a fine and nicely tanned head. Classic stout with coffee, bitter chocolate, hops and slight taosted taste. Very nice balance between bitterness and sweetness. Almost english in style! masonjer (563), Holt, Michigan, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2007 Pretty dark, but not super thick or chewy. Really not much sweetness in this brew, just some coffee or dark chocolate hints. Very straight up roasty flavors with a hop kick. Finishes extremely dry. At times almost seems a little watery. It is an alright stout, but definitely is not my favorite. TURDFERGUSON (1597), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 20, 2007 Bottle. Black pour with minimal tannish head. Nose is almost absent. A little roasted malt, maybe? Flavor is equally one demensional and bland. Not impressed, Mr. Avery. markgugs (86), Wood Ridge, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a mug
A: Pours an inky jet black, with a massive frothy 2-finger tan head, which leads to instant lacing as you drink it.
S: Has a light roasted coffee aroma, with hints of bitter dark chocolate...
T: ...which leads right into the taste. Like drinking iced coffee flavored with sprinklings of cocoa and some slight caramel sugars. If you like bitter, roasted dark stouts, this is for you. Avery’s site claims "mountains of hops," but I’ll be damned if I can find them in here.
M: Not as creamy as I prefer my stouts, and a bit more carbonated, but on the whole, a decent medium-bodied beer.
D: I’d probably try this again, though I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way for it. A good, not great beer. Sammy (3976), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Serviceable balanced stout. Fine for a dry Irish style stout, with some coffee, a tad heavy roast with a spot of smoke, jet black colour, appropriate carbonation, medium mouthfeel, and dryish finish. A bit bitter and acidic in aftertaste, like coffee can be. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 14, 2007 Black with huge frothy beige head. Guessing carbonation is out of hand, because doesn’t seem infected. Aroma and flavor dominated by dark roasted grain and coffee. Everyone knows I love coffee? Spicey-piney hop presence in the flavor as well. Very spritzy-dry mouthfeel from the carbonation.
