fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Apr 12, 2006 Black color. Some paper aroma. Based on roasted malt (too much) with hints of liquorice, but not impressive. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Apr 7, 2006 Dark brown, with a light brown head. Aromas are roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. Flavors are coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and hops. Medium body. Finisnes dry. thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Apr 3, 2006 Poured deep brown/black into a snifter. Medium sized mocha head quickly dimishes to hug rim and glob on surface. Wood, coffee and chocolate notes. Thin with roasted chocolate palate. Lasting dry bitter coffee finish. A little sour in the finish. LoveCaissa (873), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 3, 2006 Black, dry, and very roasted stout. "Dark" notes of licorice and chocolate finished of by a long and dry bitter finish. A lovely stout. LtJudge (431), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Mar 28, 2006 Pours a dark black color with a tan head.Big matly roasted coffee aroma.Great roasted coffee/malt flavor that comes to a nice bitter finish. tenghave (402), Taastrup, Denmark Mar 27, 2006 Øl (33 cl) købt på arbejdet.
Øllen er sort med normalt kulsyreniveau. Højt brunt skum, og let frugtig/brændt duft. Smagen er overraskende humlet, men har den klassiske brændte eftersmag.
ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA Mar 26, 2006 Pours black with a large tan head. Roasted coffee and prunes fill the aroma, but a slight twinge of saltiness is there as well. Roasted nuts, coffee, and some spicy, almost juicy hops. Quite a lot of bitterness, and very dry. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Mar 22, 2006 Pours ruby black with a cap of khaki head. Big dry roast aroma. The things that come to mind to decribe it are French roasted coffee and charcoal, though it isn’t smoky like those things. Maybe a touch of dark carmel buried deeply under those aromas, but it’s pretty subtle. Lots of bitterness mixed with a little sweetness, but the sweetness disappears almost immediately, leaving a lovely smoldering roast character. Soft, dry palate. Quite a nice dry stout. I can picture this being a nice counterpoint to a piece of chocolate cake. And hooray--we can get Avery in Arkansas now!
