Avery Out of Bounds Stout

Dark brown and black with some nice tan head. Filtered, booooo. Aroma is quite a bit of dry chocolate and coffee notes, maybe with some slight hops as well. Flavor is quite dry, but not bitter. Notes of chocolate and coffee are very aparent. This was a bit watery, and the flavor profile is pretty one dimensional. Not an offensive beer, but not one I would buy again.

The only reason I can think of for taking so long to getting around to this is my lack of inclination to sample stouts when it’s over 100 degrees. As with many other beers, Avery knows how to make a stout. Rich and full and with plenty going on. Very enjoyable. If Texas can lower the temps, I’ll drink more.

12oz. bottle. Toasty, malty, understated aroma, grainy, roasty, lightly coffeeish and slightly musty (since I picked it up in Boulder, though, it’s probably pretty fresh) with a small amount of fruity hop detectable as it warms. Dark brown in color, clear, with a lasting, creamy, thick off-white head and very nice lacing. Flavor profile is sweet and lightly chocolatey to start, mid-bottle sees some toasty bitterness enter the picture, blending with the brown sugar and dark chocolate undercurrent for the smooth, mild finish, which features lingering suggestions of milky coffee and some gently fruity hops. Smooth for its high effervescence, and not too thin on the palate. Medium bodied. Impressive, for the style in particular (now in my Top 5 Dry Stouts, for certain).

Bottle. Pour was a medium-viscocity deep brown with a short creamy caramel head. Lots of roasted coffee in the nose, along with a more subtle brown sugar sweetness. Medium-bodied on the palate, and the "mountain of hops" was present for the bitterness factor.. it had no bearing on the aroma. Dry and full of coffee bitterness on the finish. Flavor was like a cold malty coffee with a shot of espresso (should’ve had this in the morning)..

$9.99 for a sxpack at Broudy’s, Orange Park FL. Pours black with a small tan head. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Strong bitter espresso coffee flavor with a little malt sweetness hiding in the background. Drys out at the finish with a lingering bitterness. Medium body and mouthfeel. Assertively roasty flavor profile but still a good stout.

whats this about "mountain o’ hops" I could sense a heavy malt presence but really no hops. However it id pour an amazing black color with a thick tan head which had perfect retention. Heavy roasted coffeee/chocolate presence in both aroma and flavor.

bottle. Pours nice full deep brown with an attractive tan head. The smell is roasted coffee with some dark chocolate. The flavor is more of the same, I don’t detect the "mountain of hops" at all in this brew but rather the roasted malts dominate. Very drinkable beer.

Bottle. Pours very black with just the faintest bit of ruby on the edges; the head is on the brown side of tan. There’s quite a bit of coffee in the nose along with earthy, roasted malts and some chocolate. The mouthfeel is thinner than I expected from the appearance. Plenty of hops are evident immediately in the flavor.They are followed by serious roastiness with hints of bitter chocolate and smoke. Not bad, not bad.
