Commercial Description:
This big, roasty stout takes flavor to the extreme. We aren't afraid to use plenty of rich roasted barley and a mountain of hops to give this full-bodied stout that little extra something you've been looking for in a beer.

I don’t drink a lot of stouts but figured I could stomach this one since Avery hop’s the shit out of their beers. As expected a hoppy dry finish to this with a ton of toasty flavor dominating the overall flavor. Good bitter end to this.

black body, rocky sienna colored head that gets dimply as it dies down. beautiful roasted malt aroma, also tobacco and toasted coffee beans. flavor is roasted malt, some tingly carbonation, then a little sweet malt that gets rushed out by a bitter hoppiness. finish is dry amlt & bitter hops. this is the first non-boozy Avery I’ve had in a while, but wait, it’s only 5%, that’s why! thanks secret santa 1faststi!

bottle poured a translucent reddish black with a large rocky brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, cocoa and a bit of citrus. Palate was smooth and dry. Flavors of mocha, roasted malt. and a bit of citrus with a dry somewhat bitter finish.

Dark red-black, nice rocky tan head, receded slowly with nice lace. Aromas of grapefruit, malt, herbs, melon, chocolate and espresso. Taste was an all-out battle royale between the toast malt and the grapefruit hops. Tart and tangy, this full-bodied brew was not for the faint-of-taste. No fruity sweetness here, just a hint of molasses and brown sugar way in the background. A paean to malt and hops. According to your definition, pretty hoppy for a dry stout, though.

Red tinged black, small sized medium tan colored head. Hazelnut, roast malt, bittersweet chocolate in the aroma. Roasty flavors and astringency up front, mellows through cocoa and nutty flavors. Some residual hop bitterness in the finish to complement lingering nuts and roast. Mouthfeel is medium light, and fairly dry.

A smooth, nutty mature-tasting stout. Sweetish sometimes, not too much coffee or tarry bitterness. Was looking for a bit more coffee in this. A good choice.

08.18.05 12oz bottle. Dark, burnt brown pour with ample but quickly fading tan head. Round aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted hazelnut, and cooked oats with maple sugar. Sweetness is all but naught as this stuff is surprisingly hopped up and bitter. Nice balance of hoppy, piney bitterness with roasted coffe bitterness. Some unfortunate vegetal hints but also a vague woody character that emerges from that. In all, it’s got some nice complexity if only shallow at that, and fairly novel for a dry stout. Fun.
