Commercial Description:
This big, roasty stout takes flavor to the extreme. We aren't afraid to use plenty of rich roasted barley and a mountain of hops to give this full-bodied stout that little extra something you've been looking for in a beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of rich roasted malt and some burnt/charred notes. Flavor is also quite roasted and burnt with some bitter chocolate and light nutty notes. A sturdy palate. I enjoyed this in my beer geek infancy about a year ago and I still enjoy it today! 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

thanks unclemike: Aroma is coffee, hops, and a hint of alcohol. Pours black with nice finger and a half of white fluffy head. Flavor of hops, with a little bit of chocolate and coffee kicking in the end. Feels light in the mouth for a stout, and oily, but goes down very easy, like a stout you could chug. I like it though.

Light beige head that settles slowly and into a rocky foam. Light shines through--dark, dark brown. Lots of chocolate and slightly chaulky. Smells like there’s a touch of cream. Far more coffee flavored than the smell would indicate. Lots of black patent malt. Chewy body with high carbonation. The aftertaste is all black coffee. Very flavorful dry stout. Much more bitter (from burnt barley) than the average dry offering.

12 oz bottle from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA. Poured out dark brown with a light tan head and minimal lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate, caramel, coffee, light roasted note. Flavor is dry with a bitter chocolate feel and some coffee. Very dry finish.

Very roasted aroma...some hints of nut, oak and chocolate. Flavor profile is similar. Mouthfeel is a bit on the watery side. Overall, an ok stout, but nothing stands out.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a two finger tan head. Aroma was caramel, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor was much of the same. Medium body. Light carbonation. A great beer.

12 oz bottle. Liked many Avery’s before, though some tasted too much of alcohol. Thought this might be worth trying though. Pours a mostly black color, but with the light catching the corners of it, making it not completely opaque, with a quarter finger high off white head that is dying quickly. Smells of roasted flavors (maybe nut), a pinch of hops, a creamy coffee scent, as well as almost a candy like hint to it. Tastes of roasted coffee, but its smooth, like a cream stout, a bit of nut, though that candy-like sweetness is gone. Goes down fairly smooth, but has a weak mouth-feel to it. Overall OK, but I liked FFF’s Black Sun much more for a dry stout.
