nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2005 Aroma is sweet and very coffee like. The color is rich dark brown but when poured it has a small head. Flavor is rich with plenty of coffee and chocolate. Bitterness is about right for a stout. But despite having a rich flavor it has a thin palate for a stout. Aftertaste is like toasted bread that is bordering on burnt. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 9, 2005 Not much of anything here. Tastes kind of watery and leaves a very smokey taste in the mouth. Try something else. Tmoney99 (4663), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 15, 2005 Bottle. Black color with medium light brown head. Good stout aroma. Full well balanced toasty barley and nut flavor. Full body and good finish. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA May 28, 2005 Aroma of roasted nuts. Black body with good chocolate head. Good lacing left in the glass. Sweet and rich roasted flavor made this one a decent beer. No bad aftertaste good job Avery. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA May 24, 2005 Updated: Feb 3, 2007Great smell. Like a BBQ just lit with fresh cedar chips. Nice deep black color, but hard to get a head out of it and what little I teased up faded fast. Mmmm quaffable and bitter without being annoyingly over-hopped like a lot of Avery’s stuff. Damn solid beer that I’d LOVE to see on draft somewhere. Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2005 Straight out of the bottle, heavy roasted. Pours nice and black, tan head. Finish dry and a little bitter. Rockinout (945), Kent, Ohio, USA May 14, 2005 Roasty, smokey, little bit chocolate, wants to get sweet but the bitterness prevails in the end. Nice. BierBauch (639), Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA May 5, 2005 12oz botle. Black, opaque with a thick mocha colored head. Roasted malt aromas, coffee, bitter chocolate. Medium body, average in texture. Light on the flavors. Maybe I’m drinking too many Imperials. Coffee, cocoa, light hops. Overall an average stout.
