Ungstrup (11353), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 18, 2007 Bottled. A pitch black beer with a bubbly thick dark brown head. The aroma is powerful with the strongest notes being chocolate and hops, but also with lighter notes of roasted malt, coffee, and hints of berries. The flavor is sweet and extremely dry, like ground cocoa beans combined with notes of dark bitter dessert chocolate, prunes, roasted malt, a bit of coffee, and citrusy notes from the hops. The end is quite bitter, both from hard roasted malt and the hops, and the cocoa and citrusy hoppy notes lingers for a long time. Nice. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 31, 2002 Pitch black. Roasty, very full bodied, very balanced, very tasty. A favourite among stouts.
Papsoe (10285), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 17, 2006 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Almost opaque blackness with a tint of red. Creamy, beige head. Burned aroma. Rather light-bodied with very burned, malty notes. Bitter finish from the malts. 160106 Oakes (6973), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Mar 2, 2004 Burgundy-brown colour. Nutty, toasty, leafy, fruity aroma…lots going on…fun stuff, just like the Porter. Balanced body shows the same characteristics. None of them make a sharp impression but they are unusually charming in their vagueness, teasing the tongue rather than outright pleasuring it. Dry finish. Stylish. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 19, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a semi-lasting and dense light brown head. Aroma is chocolate malty, roasted and light chalky. Roasted malt flavour, quite acidic toi bitter with a vague chocolate smoothness. Mild fruity notes into the finish. Somewhat without balance and too simple roasted flavour to great.
