Avery Out of Bounds Stout

Found this one bottled at the Binny’s in St. Charles, Illinois. Unexpectedly good, especially for a warm late summer evening. Thick and milky dark brown pour with a thick light brown head, milk chocolate in the nose, slightly earthy, with oatmeal, soy sauce, barbeque sauce, barley, rye bread ... the list goes on. An amazing accomplishment.

pours black with frothy tan head. lots of lacing. heavy nose of caramel, dough, coffee, chocolate, rum soaked dark fruit. flavor is nice and bitter. pretty layered. roasted malt is subdued to the chocolate and coffee. more dark fruit. a little leather. aftertaste is dry and bitter. pretty awesome. thick, oily viscous mouthfeel.

Aroma of bitter malts and nuts. Pours black with a surprisingly light colored head. Mouthfeel is thinner than expected but the flavor is wonderful. Lots of dry, bitter malts with notes of ash, strong grainy coffee, and dark chocolate. Pretty well-hopped for a stout, nice lacing too. Aggressively flavorful.

Bottle that has been resting in my cellar for a couple of years. Dark brown/deep deep mahogany pour with an over abundance of rocky tan head. This head won’t quit, "finish up already putty lips" - Andrew "Dice" Clay. Anyway, nice roasty malt aroma, some chocolate notes. Nice roasty flavor, good amount of bitterness, chocolate malts, and a hint of black coffee. Smooth, very easy drinking. A pleasure. I wish it had a bit more depth.

On tap at Ginger Man NY. Black with soft tan head. Cocoa and yeasty aroma. Extremely complex flavor of chocolate, licorice, cocoa, and lotsa dark figgy fruit with fruity finish. Medium body and medium-low carbo. Nice mouthfeel. Somehow a little to fig-fruity for me. But still very good.
