3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured jet black with a thin, quickly dissipating off-white head. Great malt aroma with some of the hops coming through as well. Both flavors are joined by some roasted barley flavor notes and heavy mouth feel which made this feel like that much more of a winter stout.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A good, not awesome stout. Looks great, pours a nice, dark brown with an off white head. Notes of coffee and a bit of toffee. A bit of a bitter bite at the end.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
FROM NOTES: October 18, ’13. Poured from a 750ml bottle into a chalice.
A: Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and some dark fruit.
A: Pours black with one finger brown head decent lacing.
T: Bold smoky roasted malt with some tobacco and molasses, a strong hop profile on the finish leaves a bitterness with a bit of chocolate on the palate.
P: Medium body, low carbonation, with a somewhat creamy finish.
O: Overall, a nice stout. Nothing surprising or unusual, just a tasty beer.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Aroma: Roasted malts that tend more towards dark roast espresso; chocolate is bittersweet and nearly acrid without being harsh. Appearance: Nearly pitch black with a slightly whipped, light mocha head. Flavor: Matches the nose; very dried out and intense almost to the point of displeasure. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Some good qualities, but not a pleasure to drink overall.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz bottle. Dark pour. Roasted coffee aromas. Rich toasty roasted coffee that seem to comand the overall flavor. The bitterness balances well with this non sweet roasted stout.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This was the first Avery is ever had and one of the best stouts I had had up to that point. Its still a solid example of the style and the chocolatey, roasted, thickness is great.

Poured from 12oz bottle, deep opaque black with a finger of lighter colored foam than you’d expect. Quite aromatic with notes of chocolate and dark fruits. Roasty with sweetness that dissipates as it warms. Thin on the tongue.
