TheDean (784), MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 30, 2001 A good stout. Very bold with a bit of a roasted taste. An all around good beer.
NomDeBeer (135), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 27, 2008 Aroma of bitter malts and nuts. Pours black with a surprisingly light colored head. Mouthfeel is thinner than expected but the flavor is wonderful. Lots of dry, bitter malts with notes of ash, strong grainy coffee, and dark chocolate. Pretty well-hopped for a stout, nice lacing too. Aggressively flavorful. ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA Aug 26, 2008 Bottle that has been resting in my cellar for a couple of years. Dark brown/deep deep mahogany pour with an over abundance of rocky tan head. This head won’t quit, "finish up already putty lips" - Andrew "Dice" Clay. Anyway, nice roasty malt aroma, some chocolate notes. Nice roasty flavor, good amount of bitterness, chocolate malts, and a hint of black coffee. Smooth, very easy drinking. A pleasure. I wish it had a bit more depth. malrubius (417), USA Aug 25, 2008 On tap at Ginger Man NY. Black with soft tan head. Cocoa and yeasty aroma. Extremely complex flavor of chocolate, licorice, cocoa, and lotsa dark figgy fruit with fruity finish. Medium body and medium-low carbo. Nice mouthfeel. Somehow a little to fig-fruity for me. But still very good. HoppyGuy (97), USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle.Pours a dark brown, almost coal color, with a three-quarters inch tan head that dissipates after a few minutes. Roasted malt aroma with tones of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is a nice, deep roasted barley flavor, laced with dark chocolate and a hint of espresso. Soft mouthfeel, kind of creamy. Great stout!
I’d like to pair this brew with a hearty beef stew (cooked with some of this stout) and a good bread, on a cold and blustery night, along with a good murder mystery book and a healthy fire in the fireplace. zebracakes (973), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours tar, tan head. Aroma is roasted chocolate anise coffee. Now there’s a mouthful! ;)
Flavor is all of the above and more. This is pretty creamy and toasty, nice dry bitter finish. Good stuff in my book!
