Aug 8, 2008 Bottle. Poured a Nice black body with thin head. Aroma is light chocolate, molasses, and hops. Flavor is light chocolate, molasses, hops and rich toffee. Slight dry mouthfeel but a smooth chocolate taste.

May 8, 2007 Bottle. Pours a nice dark brown/black with a tan head. Nice aroma of coffee and cocoa. Taste is full bodied and has a slight bitter finish to it. A wonderful beer.

Pours black with a one finger fluffy brown head. aroma is coffee, hops and a little bitter dark chocolate. has a medium body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma. has an oily and creamy mouthfeel with a bite from the hops on the tongue. also has a dry hop aftertaste- not bad.

Dec 21, 2007 (Bottle) Pours black with a brown head. Roasted malt aroma. Taste is of burnt malt, caramel, cocoa, smoke, and toffee. Lingering dry aftertaste includes quite a bit of smoke. Light, fine carbonation and average palate. A very solid stout that I wouldn’t mind drinking a lot of!

Jun 12, 2007 Almost black pour with a big tan head. Aroma is of coffee, malts, cocoa. Flavor is sort of metallic malts, roast, coffee and bitter chocolates. Body is a tad thin but still an overall decent stout.

Oct 27, 2006 Bottle. Not quite shear black like many Stouts, more of a deep brown. Bunch of roast smell, taste and finish in this one. Nice hoppiness at the end. I like roasty stouts, so I like this one.

Feb 18, 2007 Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a mug
A: Pours an inky jet black, with a massive frothy 2-finger tan head, which leads to instant lacing as you drink it.
S: Has a light roasted coffee aroma, with hints of bitter dark chocolate...
T: ...which leads right into the taste. Like drinking iced coffee flavored with sprinklings of cocoa and some slight caramel sugars. If you like bitter, roasted dark stouts, this is for you. Avery’s site claims "mountains of hops," but I’ll be damned if I can find them in here.
M: Not as creamy as I prefer my stouts, and a bit more carbonated, but on the whole, a decent medium-bodied beer.
D: I’d probably try this again, though I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way for it. A good, not great beer.
