dark reddish pour, with thin off-white head. Red grape, lots of cab wine, oak, a bit earthy, light vinegar, and some notes of brett funk. Decent, very wine like.

Pours a deep, dark red color with a small off-white head. Holy crap does this smell sweet. Intense grape aroma and just as much sweet jam kind of smell. Lots of berry type notes to it (blackberry and boysenberry, mostly). The flavor is no different. Intense sugary sweetness with berry jam and overripe grapes dominating. Some red wine, a bit of wood, and minimal tartness to break up the sweetness.

12oz bottle, cheers, Aaron! Pouts a brown with cab sav highlights. Nose is tart red grapes, slight vinegar, some vinous qualities, and wood. Flavor is similar with front end red wine, wood and slight vinegar in the mid, and lingering red wine in the finish of this medium-bodied beaut.

Not a big fan of sour ales. Luckily this doesn’t taste like one. Appreciated the dark fruit notes in the aroma and flavor. Beautiful deep red-brown color.

Bottle. Pours clear rubied brown with a medium, fizzy and effervescent off-white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is cookie and light caramel malt, grapes and vinous notes, oak, earthy and wild yeast. Flavor is malt forward with grapes and Cabernet Sauvignon, oak, light bitterness, and a lush body that finishes dry. Medium body, warmth and carbonation.

Another huge thanks to Armin! Bottle pours deep burnt ruby with an off-white head. Aroma reminds me of a freshly dumped Lodi Zin barrel (including the slight alc twinge), even though I can definitely get the Cab presence. Notes of black cherry, raspberry, caramel, plum, tobacco, and oak. Flavor is tart with additional notes of vanillin, pepper, and a definite red wine presence. Overall body is moderate, tannic, and the finish is dry. I know that a lot of people don’t seem to be "fans" of this one, but I can really appreciate what they accomplished here. This one really blurs the lines and boundaries of beer/wine.

Bottle shared by Ari. Pours a clear deep red with a grayish head that starts and remains throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of tart dry red fruit with hints of barrel. Flavor starts with sweet dark fruit with backing oak and earthy fruit.

12 oz bottle from The Dood. Thanks, Scott! The 2nd sour from this recent Barrel Aged Series release. Pours a reddish copper hue, some red wine darkness in the body as the beer looks very red wine hued in body. A lively carbonation and small whitish head settles to tiny ring, laces minimally. Deep reddish hue glows deeply. Aromas are lush and rich, firm red wine grapes, dry and fruity, dry tannins with some good red wine tannins, wet oak, touches of vanilla, and firm bretty funk, cobwebs and dust. A firm lactic acid quality of lemons, touches of vinegar, cherries, and more grapes. A deep fruity nose, red wine, and luscious red wine on the more fruity side, with some great lively aromas. Really digging this. Initial is a little less lively, offering lots of red wine, thinned body that is quite quaffable up front. Some soil, grapes, kiss of black cherry. Gentle toast. A lighter feel on the palate, slick, with some big dry red wine tannins into middle and finish. Some warming alcohol coats the esophagus on the way down, touches of acidity, vinegar. Red wine and Cab grapes really dry this out leaving a lasting dry Cabernet dominance. Touches of dryness, gentle funk, oak, and a touch of vinegar like sourness. Really, the red wine elements take this beer over. A bit rough for me in the finish but as compared to a red wine, it really hits the mark. Overall, it’s a very interesting and impressive effort.. but why put in all that effort just to recreate the red wine experience.. A less complex one at that. Touches of prickly carbonation, sourness, and red wine dance up front. A bit rough into the finish, a solid beer and interesting move into the red wine realm. Overall, I’d take Muscat over this likely.. But they both have strengths and weaknesses.. And their big ABV kicks seem to detract from some of the nuance they do and could further offer. I honestly feel like I just had a glass of Cab.. Yet without the complexity of the really good ones.

bottle thanks to Ratman197. Pours a deep ruby with a small off white head. Vinous nose with light oak, seeping undeveloped Brett and light grape notes. Med body with tart grape juice, light oak, wine barrels and deep fruit notes. Vinous finish with tannins, oak, grape skins and light Brett. Should get even better with more time.
