jstraw (468), Oak Park, Illinois, USA Mar 17, 2008 Copper with big, creamy tan head / Citrus, sugar & malt nose / Light body, a litlle thin, with malts balanced by hops and modest, dry finish / Mild flavors of burnt sugar, orange, and grapefruit / Well made, but just a little weak.
lithy (200), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 30, 2008 Dark coppery color nice fingers of tan head. Lots of lacing. Settles to a cover. Chocolate notes among the dark amber malts. Smooth chocolate flavor, heavy, malty. Would’ve guess that this is a bock not an amber. Great beer though. glennmastrange (410), hobe sound, Florida, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cookie, cereal and caramel, light flowers for the hops and light dough and broth for the yeast, with a hint of toffee in the background. Head is fizzy, white, with no lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky orange brown. Flavor is lightly sweet to start, and is lightly sweet and acidic. Palate is medium, watery edging on oily and has a lively carbonation. A nice combo of a complex beer with great drinkability. improvjock (56), USA Sep 28, 2008 Pours a dark brown with medium tan head. Nice malty flavor with a small hint of bitterness on the finish. Citrusy notes on the nose Narnad (108), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2008 Never had any beer from this brewery so I didn’t know what to expect. Name is pretty non-descript and was bought as a single bottle so there was no description of the ale on the box/six pack. The beer pours a very dark amber-red with a medium carbonation. Aroma is very heavy of citrus. This beer definitely has a very very unique taste. It starts off with a fair amount of caramel sweet malt taste and ends with a very piney flavor. One unique aspect of the beer is the citrus flavor is really prevalent from start to finish trying to meld with the other flavors. The citrus resembles a sweet lemon flavor as opposed to an acidic citrus seen in some other beers. Overall a pretty unique beer taste but in my mind the flavors are really battling it out and make it seem a bit too busy for the taste buds. With that being said, it’s definitely a smooth, good drinking beer. durhambeer (527), Durham, USA Sep 22, 2008 Admittedly, I shouldn’t have had this beer with a big plate of barbecue after spending all day at a beer festival. Water was all I really needed. But I saw it on the list at Ruby’s in Asheville and realized I had never had it before, so, you know, I had to. Poured clear copper red with small off-white head. Overall, this was too sweet for me. Hop presence didn’t come through as strongly as expected, and it just felt a bit sickly sweet. Some bread, a little hops, and lots of malt; not much complexity.
